One key step in ensuring your vacation starts on the right note is securing a reliable lift from the airport to your next destination. There is nothing worse than being uncertain of where you should go or how to get there.
There are many ways to get from Montego Bay airport to your next destination. Let’s explore these options.
In most cases, your hotel or villa will arrange for pick-ups and drop-offs for you. Some hotels will have varying types of transfers depending on the accommodations you paid for. In general, there will be a bus to pick up guests who are staying at the same accommodation who all land in the same period.
Guests who paid for a more luxurious experience will often have private transfers to and from the airport.
Some hotels and resorts will have this as a complementary service, however, smaller hotels, guest houses and villas will arrange the ride for you but the cost of the transfer will be paid by you.
It is highly unlikely that Airbnb and similar accommodations will have organised transfers for you in which case, you will have to figure it out on your own.
Regular airport taxis are always an option. The taxis at the airport will take you as far as you are willing to pay for, but this option can become incredibly expensive as you can imagine.
There are private taxi or transportation services who cater specifically to guests that you might consider. These are the companies listed in Montego Bay.
Amstar provides private and shuttle services to guests from the Montego Bay Airport to some hotels in Ocho Rios, Trelawny, Montego Bay, Negril and the South Coast. The hotels they transport to are all listed on their website.
You will leave immediately from the airport and to your destination with the private option. This option is ideal if you are travelling with a large group or with children.
On the public shuttle, you will have a comfortable ride in a bus shared with other guests heading to the same town. Because there is door-to-door transportation, there will be a few stops en route to your resort.
For both services, there will be an Amstar representative awaiting you. When the time comes for you to leave, your driver will pick you up from the lobby of your resort at your requested pick-up time.
Amstar also has additions you can make including beers, juices, water, snacks and rental car or booster seats for kids. If it is a special occasion, or just because, you can add a special gift like roses and carefully selected Jamaican products to the reservation as well.
Best Jamaica promises a guest-centric experience with their easy transfers to the major resort towns, Negril, Ocho Rios, Falmouth, Runaway Bay and Montego Bay.
The taxi service also does excursions around Jamaica and tours from the Ocho Rios and Montego Bay Cruise Port Tours.
You can also add refreshments to your reservation such as beers, sodas, water and juices for kids.
Island Pride Tours offers transfer services from the Montego Bay Airport to hotels in Montego Bay, Falmouth, Negril and Ocho Rios. They have a shuttle service which means you will travel with other visitors outside of your group who are heading to hotels in the same direction as you.
Their two private services are the town car and limousine transfers. Limousines add that extra bit of luxury while the town cars are ideal for 1 to 3 persons travelling together.
Uber is not yet in Montego Bay, it is only available in Kingston. Taxi Services such as InDriver are available in Montego Bay.

No, you do not tip them if it is a route taxi with other passengers. But, if you hire a taxi for charter or taxi service it is customary to tip them.

There are various bus/taxi stands around the town. To get to the Hip Strip you’ll need to get an “Airport” taxi as that is the route it is on.
No, Lyft is not yet in Jamaica.
