Have you been experimenting and trying out various Jamaican dishes? Well, you probably have come upon a few recipes that require some LASCO by now.
LASCO products are a staple in our Jamaican society and they are sometimes irreplaceable ingredients in some of our favourite drinks and dishes.
But you see, LASCO isn’t just a single product. It is an entire group of companies, but in typical Jamaican fashion, we call the most popular product of any brand, which in this case is the LASCO Food Drink, by the name of the brand itself and not the actual name of the product.

The LASCO Affiliated companies have 3 main companies under their umbrella, LASCO Manufacturing, LASCO Distributors and LASCO Financial Services.
LASCO Affiliated Companies is owned by Hon. Lascelles A. Chin. He is the founder and Executive Chairman of the company and a well-known entrepreneur and highly appreciated philanthropist in Jamaica and the Caribbean.
He was born and raised in St. Catherine Jamaica and ventured into business at the early age of 23 and has become one of the most highly respected, awarded and recognized businessmen from the Caribbean region.
LASCO Distributors Limited
The company started in 1988 and is the first company of the LASCO Affiliated Companies. It is responsible for the distribution of all LASCO products including the products that fall under their nutrition, health and hygiene lines.
Not only do they distribute their own products in Jamaica, but they also have partnerships with other local and international companies and brands. The company is responsible for the distribution of Unilever’s products in Jamaica. Unilever’s most popular brands in Jamaica are, Breeze, Axe and Dove. They also distribute for Maruchan, Salada and Eloa.
Jamaican company Salada Food Jamaica Ltd, the manufacturer of Jamaica Mountain Peak and Mountain Bliss 876, as well as their range of teas also uses LASCO Distributions services.
Their distribution efforts are not only for Jamaica either, they distribute products in over 12 countries including Jamaica and other Caribbean countries, the United States, Canada, Europe and Middle Eastern Countries. They are also an authorized representative and distribution service for many pharmaceutical houses around the world.
LASCO Manufacturing Limited
LASCO’s manufacturing efforts began in 1994 and has since been responsible for producing some of our favourite products including what I would argue is their most popular products LASCO Food Drink or just "Lasco" as we call it. The product was launched in 1993 with vanilla, chocolate and strawberry flavours. Since then has added countless others including almond, carrot, cherry and creamy malt.
Is LASCO Food Drink Good For You?
With a slogan like “Nutrition never tasted so good”, of course, LASCO food drink has some great nutritional value and the best part is most, if not all flavours are very tasty. Each package contains a considerable amount of protein, iron and calcium, among many other nutritional ingredients. While you can add just about anything to your favourite flavour, you can always just add water. It is a great drink for the entire family.
They produce other milk-based products as well like their Instant Whole Milk, Skimmed Milk and Instant Milk Powder. LASCO was also one of the earliest brands to provide soy alternatives with their LaSoy Lactose-free milk and Milky Soy. These all fall under their LASCO Foods line.
Other products under this line are various canned foods, pasta, cereals, crackers, sauces and juices. The hygiene products under their personal care line include toothpaste, soaps, laundry detergents and sanitary napkins. LASCO also does both baby and adult diapers as well as baby formulas.
Their Pharmaceutical and Vitamins line has been producing affordable medication since 1988. The line produces affordable medication for illnesses including HIV and Diabetes. Lascelles Chin, the founder of LASCO, even won an award for his efforts to provide affordable health care for HIV patients in 2008.
LASCO Financial Services Limited
This particular company started operation in 2004 and has a few divisions; LASCO MoneyGram offers remittance, money transfer and Cambio services. LASCO MicroFinance provides personal, business and consumer loans to its customers.
As you can imagine LASCO Jamaica has accomplished a lot in 34 years and that has won them many awards. Both the company and their founder have been recognized for their philanthropic efforts and their commitment to providing Jamaica with healthy and affordable options.
Here are some highlights:
Their financial services have also won many awards from the Jamaica Stock Exchange and various Caribbean organizations.
