Jamaica50 Entry #5 -Jamaica - My Country(Poem)
Jamaica -tropical little island
That is where my life began.
Your hills and mountains sculptured me -
Swimming, diving, bamboo rafting
On the rivers long and winding -
Riding the waves on the Caribbean Sea
Brought finesse to the work.
Quadrille had us dancing in frills and fours
All over the floor
With rock steady and reggae in our souls
The pocomania and dinkie minnie
Possessed our bodies and brought out the moves.
From basic school to the university
Education has always been paramount.
Sunday school and youth fellowship,
Crusades and conventions
All add to the wonderful gifts you have given us;
Wealth untold!
Now as I walk in a foreign land
With my head held high
Making a worthwhile contribution
I think of you my dear JAMAICA
And wish to make you proud.
Your colors I flaunt
Your values uphold
And if I make the news
I want it to be an asset
To you, my beautiful island home.
JAMAICA, my first love!
