Dancehall, like many other hardcore music genres, is heavily populated by male artists and women breaking into the genre have to do their utmost best to get any recognition. Many of our female dancehall artists have surpassed our expectations and even taken on the international stage. So who are the top female dancehall artists from Jamaica?

When discussing the top female dancehall artists from Jamaica, Spice undoubtedly takes the throne. Born Grace Latoya Hamilton, Spice has earned her title as the "Queen of Dancehall" through her unmatched charisma, vibrant personality and sense of fashion, and hit songs that have audiences worldwide gyrating. Her fearless approach to music and the unapologetic expression of her sexuality have garnered both praise and controversy. Nevertheless, Spice's talent and tenacity continue to solidify her position as an iconic figure in dancehall history. Songs like "So Mi Like It," "Sheet," and "Indicator" exemplify her prowess and ability to dominate the dancehall scene.
Shenseea, born Chinsea Lee, burst onto the dancehall scene with an irresistible blend of dancehall, reggae, and pop elements. Her rapid rise to fame can be attributed to her versatile talent, enchanting vocals, and collaborations with local and international. Songs like "Loodi," "Blessed," (featuring Tyga) and "Lighter" (with Tarrus Riley) have catapulted Shenseea into the spotlight. Not only is she known for her well-known and loved songs, but her undeniable talent for freestyling also makes her a crowd favourite.
Jada Kingdom represents the new wave of female dancehall artists making their mark on the genre. Her versatility allows her to seamlessly blend dancehall with elements of R&B and hip-hop, creating a fresh and unique sound. Jada's powerful vocals and emotionally charged lyrics have gained her a dedicated fanbase. Songs like "Love Situation" and "Best You Ever Had" demonstrate her ability to connect with listeners on a deeper level and cement her position as a rising star in the dancehall world.
Shaneil Muir has risen to one of Jamaicaโs favourite relatively new, dancehall sensations. Her breakout single "Yamabella" gained widespread acclaim, introducing her unique sound to a global audience. Since then, Shaneil has continued to release captivating tracks, solidifying her position as one of Jamaica's top female dancehall artists.
With a career that spans decades, Pamputae, born Eveana Henry, is a dancehall veteran known for her energetic performances and empowering lyrics. She has been a trailblazer for women in the genre, paving the way for the next generation of artists. Songs like "Slim vs Fluffy" and "It Good" showcases her versatility and enduring popularity, making her a respected figure in the dancehall community.
Hoodcelebrityy, is a Jamaican-born New Yorker who made her music debut in 2015 with "Wine Pon It". She also worked with Cardi B on "Island Girls" and one of Cardi B's earlier mixtapes. With her sole album, Trap vs. Reggae, and a number of successful songs, Hoodcelebrityy made history in the late 2010s. Fans' faves including "Walking Trophy," "Bum Pon It," "Brukwine Breakdown," "Inside," and "So Pretty" with Kash Doll were all created by Hoodcelebrity.
Stefflon Don started her journey to become one of the top Dancehall artists in the world in the middle of the 2010s. She is also a rapper and an R&B singer. Stefflon Don, who was up in the U.K. music culture, rose to prominence in 2017 with the success of his smash singles "Real Ting," "Envy Us," "Hurtin Me" (with French Montana), and "16 Shots."
Stalk Ashley's career began when she worked with Jada Kingdom on the 2018 song "Wasteman." In 2019, she made her debut with the tune "Sin Sex." Stalk Ashley, whose career is still in its early stages, has developed her drive for perfection with hits like "Young," "Open," "Incognito," and the Skeng-featuring song "Talibhan".
Denyque started the journey to becoming one of the top female dancehall musicians in the early 2010s. Denyque's first hit came in 2013 with "Make Me Believe," and since then, songs like "Proud Wifey" and "Same Guy" have continued to be played on Dancehall fans' speakers.
