The early 20th century is where the rich and colourful history of the Liguanea Club begins. A revitalizing getaway can be found here, where Georgian architecture and modern vitality coexist.
The club is ideal for unwinding, having fun, and conducting business. A wide variety of sporting venues, lodging options, and an engaging social activities calender are all provided by Liguanea Club. Although they have modernized the furnishings and services, they continue to uphold the legendary forebears' traditions of service, comfort, and genuine Jamaican hospitality.
The area where the Liguanea Club is located was formerly known as Knutsford Park and covered 35 acres. The "Liguanea Plain," on which much of Kingston is situated and which once served as a haven for enormous populations of "Iguana" (a giant lizard), is where the name of the place comes from.
A picture of an iguana from that time hangs in the clubhouse's "Iguana Bar." Jamaica was formerly a colony of Spain for almost 150 years before being taken over by the English in 1655 by the word "Liguanea," which is a corruption of the Spanish word "Iguana."
The Liguanea Club has a long and distinguished history. Sir Fielding Clarke, the inaugural President of the Club and Chief Justice of Jamaica, officially opened it on November 22, 1910. The primary structure underwent major renovations in 1949, and on December 28, 1949, Sir John Huggins, a former governor-general of Jamaica, declared it formally reopened.
The Club has been featured frequently in media advertising and feature films, with "James Bond Movie - Dr. No" being the most noteworthy. The Jamaica Squash Association, Tennis Jamaica Ltd., The Olympic Association of Jamaica, Rotary International, The Women's Club, The Scottish Country Dance Society, The Caledonian Society, Kiwanis, and Optimists Club are just a few examples of the organizations that the Club has supported and continues to support.
The membership packages are made for people who enjoy maintaining an active social and physical lifestyle. A network of prominent professionals who are the best in their industry is accessible to members of the Liguanea Club.
After a hard day or on the weekends, you can unwind and relax in the Members' Only Lounge. In a laid-back setting, The Lounge provides a full-service bar and informal eating. The Lounge can be rented out for private gatherings for members.
Membership grants you access to the following:
The hotel has only 38 rooms, giving off the impression of a country hamlet with Georgian influences. The rooms in the main building are reflective of our colonial heritage while blending modern simplicity and a minimalist design.
Each apartment offers a private balcony with views of the lawns covered in fruit trees. The rooms in the tennis court building are decorated with bright pops of colour and have crisp white bedding and walls. Having lots of space and high ceilings makes for a wonderful hideaway. Amenities:
