Photo Contest Entry #27 - Pleasant Christmas Surprise from My Garden
This is a picture of red and white sorrel picked from my garden on Sunday, November 27, 2016!
I got nostalgic and searched online for traditional Jamaican foods. I purchased the seeds from Jamaica through ebay and planted them in my backyard in Sanford, Florida.
I didn't get an impressive crop last year, and although I saved seeds for this year, I didn't get around to planting so I was pleased to see a few plants emerge from dropped seeds!
We have been having a drought since Hurricane Matthew so I occasionally water the plants.
My water bill gets very high when I irrigate regularly, so I wasn't expecting much, I'm really excited to start my harvest.
I already have two Facebook friends fighting over their share!
Sorrel will be one of my contributions to this year's Christmas dinner. Being in the U.S., I still try to maintain my Jamaican traditions.
I've heard of soup made with white sorrel, so I would love it if anyone would share that recipe and any others. Thank you!
