Stress and Anxiety are things we all have to deal with at some point, but for some of us, high levels of stress and anxiety can lead to various other health issues. Wellesley took it upon himself to pay a visit to his friend Bones, who is well-versed in herbal medicines, and she shared with us nine Jamaican herbs for anxiety and stress relief.

According to Bones, you can prepare each herb by making a tea or brewing it to make a form of tonic water, which you would replace with your regular drinking water and have throughout the day. While you can choose to use only one of these herbs, you can also combine a few, or even all, of them to make a tonic and have a small amount each day.
These herbs are not just great for anxiety, though; they all possess a great number of health and medicinal benefits.
The adventive plant species known as Duppy Gun is originally from the Caribbean and goes by the scientific name Reullla tuberose. The dry pods of the plant have the unusual characteristic of popping open when touched with saliva or water, which is how it got its nickname, because of the sound it makes when it pops open.. Duppy Gun has reportedly been used in conventional medicine to treat gastritis and is considered to have potent gastro-protective qualities.
Additionally, it has been proven that the plant increases the potency of semen and acts as an aphrodisiac. Due to this, Duppy Gun is frequently found in root tonics offered to men who want to increase their overall sexual performance.
Coughs, colds, and the flu are also treated using the plant's herbal tea. Additionally, it is utilized as a treatment for constipation, stomach irritation, and other general gastrointestinal problems.
Sarsaparilla belongs to the tropical plant genus Smilax. Indigenous people have used the root of the sarsaparilla plant for millennia to treat joint diseases like arthritis as well as skin illnesses like psoriasis, eczema, and dermatitis.
Because of the root's "blood-purifying" properties, some individuals thought it could be able to treat Hansen's disease (leprosy). Sarsaparilla was finally recognized as a herb in the United States Pharmacopoeia and later used to treat syphilis in European medicine.
The "strong back herb" plant or shrub is native to Jamaica, Southern Florida, South America, and the Caribbean Islands. It is a perennial vine that belongs to the coffee-family Rubiaceae.
This herb was used in antiquity by elders, especially men, to increase their stamina and sexual potency.
Just a few of the additional benefits this herb can provide include improving sex desire, reducing the risk of rheumatism and bronchitis, treating kidney and pulmonary diseases, preserving a healthy metabolism, enhancing heart function, and preserving healthy skin and hair.
The name of this common Jamaican plant is Ra-moon, which is pronounced: "raw moon." It is a member of the family Moraceae. Both the leaves and the bark of the Ra-moon tree are utilized to try to gain health benefits.
In order to boost sexual stamina and potency, ra-moon is widely used as a stimulant.
Farmers have been utilizing the herb in this way for many years after learning that it was the reason for their animals' rapid reproduction, but Ra-moon accomplishes this in an uncertain way. Ra-moon can also be utilized to cure fatigue and boost the body's overall energy levels.
Alysicarpus vaginalis, often referred to as Medina in Jamaica, has a variety of uses. In certain other Caribbean regions, it is also referred to as "God Bush."
The entire plant is used to make a powder, which is used to treat back and joint discomfort, fevers, and the common cold. It is a great source of iron and is consequently great for treating anaemia, low blood counts, and weariness.
Medina is a popular aphrodisiac and virility enhancer for men. It is also used to treat STIs and urinary tract infections. Medina is also applied topically to treat eczema, ringworm, and other skin conditions.
When taken properly, the medina herb can provide a number of health advantages, such as Cancer prevention. The plant's flavonoids relieve anxiety as they help calm the mind and encourage relaxation. The plant's alkaloids can help kill cancer cells. It lowers cholesterol, which in turn helps reduce the risk of heart disease.
Chaney root, which grows in Jamaica's deep forests, is a well-known Jamaican tonic and aphrodisiac (used to increase stamina, boost sex drive, and treat impotence).
Chaney root treats skin rashes, cleans the blood (excellent for people with anaemia and low blood counts), and also eases back pain, arthritis, and rheumatism.
The dried, blooming section of the plant is used to make medicine. Anxiety, restlessness, tension, excitability, attention deficit-hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), nervousness, and irritability are all conditions that are treated with wild hops.
In addition, it is used to treat other sleep problems like insomnia. Furthermore, it can be used as a bitter tonic to alleviate indigestion, encourage urine flow, stimulate hunger, and start the flow of breast milk.
Its uses include the treatment of TB, high cholesterol, mucous colitis, bladder infections, mucosal cancers of the breast and ovaries, prostate cancer, breast cancer, and ovarian cancer. On occasion, Wild Hops is applied topically to treat leg sores and against bacteria.
It is said that sour sop is effective at slowing down cancer cells because its active component is 10,000 times more effective than chemotherapy at attacking cancer cells.
And this refers to every type of cancer, such as lung, prostate, and breast cancer. Diabetes, eczema, rheumatism, back pain, and uric acid can all be effectively treated with it.
By stopping the growth of bacteria, parasites, and tumours, it also helps to boost the immune system and fight infections. Because of its medicinal properties, it can be used as an anti-seizure medication.
It also has the ability to lower blood pressure and fever. In addition to reducing swelling and reducing inflammation, it aids in digestion and increases appetite.
Antioxidants and anti-inflammatory substances are found in cinnamon leaves, which may benefit general health. Additionally, consuming cinnamon leaf tea may enhance digestion, lessen inflammation, and soothe an upset stomach. According to some research, cinnamon may help control blood sugar levels, making it a beneficial food for diabetics.
Making tea or tonic water from these herbs will provide you with an immense reduction in stress and anxiety, but as always, before you try something new, consult your medical provider, especially if you are on medication or have any illnesses.
