It is always argued that the wedding is more for the bride than the groom. This is true to an extent for the J'can bride as most times it is her that decides on most of the details such as the number of guests, location, wedding colors, and bridesmaid dresses.
Jamaican brides view the wedding day as the most important day of her life. Hence, extensive planning and preparation is done to ensure the day goes according to plan. The location of the wedding is vital and has to accommodate all the guests. The tradition is doing the wedding ceremony at a church and then the reception at another location.
As part of their wedding gifts, family members and friends would decorate the church, reception venue and prepare the meals. The wedding cake though would be ordered in advance from a reputable pastry chef as everyone in attendance would want to savor the cake.
However, most couples are now using the services of resorts like RIU, Sandals and Holiday Inn that provides wedding packages.
The use of resorts to conduct wedding has become popular since the wedding ceremony, reception, and honey moon can be done at the same location. It is less stressing and cost less. Why go through the hustle and bustle of planning when someone else can?
A simple wedding package includes venue, décor, marriage counsellor, photography, cuisine, entertainment and honeymoon suite. Of course, the package can be tailored to meet the needs of the bride and groom.
So after the guests are invited, location booked and the other major arrangements taken care of, the bride has the task of deciding on her attire for the special day. It is every bride’s dream to look strikingly beautiful on the day.
There are bridal shops in Jamaica such as Bliss Bridal Boutique, Petals and promises Ltd and The sweetest Weddings Jamaica that can assist with the wedding dress, floral arrangements and accessories.
As the day finally arrives and the bride stroll down the aisle on the arm of her father with her stunning hair do, flawless makeup and elegant accessories in her long white dress everyone stare in awe.
The highlight of the wedding is always about the beautiful bride. Most times guest become impatient after having to wait up to two hours after the scheduled time but when she finally arrive it is truly worth the wait.
There is also no doubt that she is wearing something new, blue and borrowed which is customary with the tradition.
