Let’s see what our athletes did on their day 8 at the Paris Olympics.
Women’s Shorput Qualifications
Team Jamaica shot put throwers Danniel Thomas-Dodd and Lloydricia Cameron both came close but ultimately did not advance to the women's shot put final. Thomas-Dodd achieved a throw of 18.12m, just shy of the qualifying mark, while Cameron delivered a season's best of 18.02m, but it wasn't enough to secure a spot in the final.
Women’s 4x100 relay heats
With a season-best time of 42.35 seconds, the Jamaican women's 100-meter relay team—which consists of Alana Reid, Kemba Nelson, Tia Clayton, and Shashalee Forbes—has guaranteed their place in the finals.
Men’s 4x100 relay heats
Jamaica’s men’s 100m relay team, including Jelani Walker, Jelani Gordon, Ackeem Blake, and Kishane Thompson, did not qualify for the men’s 4x100 relay finals. They ran a time of 38.45s.
Men’s 800m heats
Despite his best effort, Navasky Anderson placed 5th with a time of 1:46.01s in his repechage heat and did not advance to the men’s 800m semi-finals.
Women’s long jump finals
Ackelia Smith secured 8th place in the women’s long jump final with a distance of 6.66 meters.
Women’s 400m Hurdles Finals
Rushell Clayton with a time of 52.68s and Shiann Salmon with a time of 53.29s both tried their best in the women’s 400m hurdles final and finished 5th and 6th respectively.
Men’s 110m Hurdles Finals
Team Jamaica's medal tally increased as Rasheed Broadbell earned a bronze medal in the men's 110m hurdles final, finishing with a time of 13.09 seconds.
In an impassioned interview during the Olympics in Paris, Danniel Thomas-Dodd, the shot put finalist for Team Jamaica, criticized the Jamaica Organizing Association (JOA) and the Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association (JAAA), claiming that their lack of support was a role in her failure to qualify for the shot throw finals. This wasn’t the first time an athlete has complained about these organizations; they have some explaining to do.
Gold: 1
Silver: 3
Bronze: 2

Day eight of the Paris Olympics 2024 was a mix of triumph and challenges for Team Jamaica. While some faced disappointment, others excelled with a season-best performance and added to our medal count. There are a few more days left in the games and we have not lost hope in carrying home some more medals.
