Day 6 for Team Jamaica at the Paris Olympics took place on our nation's 62nd year of celebrating Independence. I am sure the significance of the day added some pressure on our athletes out on the field. Letโs see how they did.

Womenโs 1500m Heats
Adelle Tracey competed in the womenโs 1500m heats and placed 13th with a time of 4:09.33. Unfortunately, she did not automatically qualify for the semi-finals and will have to compete in the repechage round for another chance.
Menโs 3m Springboard
Yona Knight-Wisdom qualified for the menโs 3m springboard semi-finals by placing 14th out of 18 with 382.90 points.

Ackelia Smith finished 5th in Group B of the heats with a jump of 6.59m and secured her spot in the finals while Chanice Porter finished 8th in Group A with a jump of 6.48m and did not qualify.
Menโs 200m Repechage
Bryan Levell secured his spot in the semi-finals by finishing 2nd in his heat with a time of 20.47s. Andrew Hudson placed second in his heat with the same time of 20.47s but did not advance to the semi-finals.
Menโs 400m semi-finals

Womenโs 400m semi-finals
Russell Clayton advanced to the final by winning her semi-final in 53.00 seconds and so did Shiann Salmon who came third in her semi-final with a time of 53.13s! On the other hand, Janieve Russell narrowly missed qualifying for the final after finishing fourth in her semi-final with a time of 54.65s.
Menโs Long Jump Finals
After six jumps, Wayne Pinnock gave Jamaica our 4th medal at the Paris 2024 Olympics. He secured 2nd place with a jump of 8.36m! Carey McLeod sadly ended his participation after just three leaps, placing 12th in the men's long jump final with a jump of 7.82m.
Wayne Pinnock did his big one by securing for Jamaica, our only medal on Independence Day!
Gold: 0
Silver: 3
Bronze: 1
Here are some interesting moments caught by camera of our team on Day 6 of us participating at the Paris Olympics games.
Here is what social media had to say to our athletes on day 6.
Cranston Kelly: "That was expected. You have to be consistently running sub 20s to stand a chance. We have to be realistic. By putting on the Jamaican uniform doesn't transform them into superman. Mens 200m and 400 needs some injection. There is some resurgence in the 100m. Now we need to give Bolt even more credit for what he did in both."
Swayne Dada Wallace: "I think they obeah Jamaicans this Olympic"
Carlie J Shepherd: "Bwoy me seah France SALT bad, bad, bad. the saltiness even start early, way before the Olympics begin, it started with the Elaine Thompson injury in New York."
Marcia Brandon: "As long as the athletes are happy with their efforts, we are happy right along with them. Proud a oonuu!"
Daphne McCreath: "Boy me no feel so happy, because me no use to them yah kinda winning yah, the one little gold we get them rob we,but a so it go bless up all the Jamaican athletes me proud a all a unnu one love โค๏ธ happy independence to unnu ๐๐๐ป๐ฏ๐ฒ๐ฏ๐ฒ๐ฏ๐ฒ๐ฏ๐ฒ๐ฏ๐ฒ๐ฏ๐ฒ๐ฏ๐ฒ๐ฏ๐โค๏ธ"
Dene Fullerton: "I think we sacrifice our gold medals this year for Kartel release ๐คฆ๐พโโ๏ธ๐คฆ๐พโโ๏ธ๐คฆ๐พโโ๏ธ๐๐คท๐พโโ๏ธ๐คท๐พโโ๏ธ๐คท๐พโโ๏ธ๐คท๐พโโ๏ธ๐คท๐พโโ๏ธ๐คท๐พโโ๏ธ"
Sheena Cross Smith: "Congratulations Wayne so proud of you๐ฏ๐ฒ๐ฏ๐ฒ๐ฏ๐ฒ๐๐๐"
Despite mixed results, we are grateful for Wayne Pinnock's outstanding silver medal on Independence Day. Our athletes were still out there trying their best.
