So far, Paris Olympics 2024 has not been looking great for Team Jamaica. For an island that is used to collecting medals in the double digits at the summer games, this year has been disappointing so far. However it has only been 5 days thus far, so maybe things will get better.

Menโs 400m Hurdles Heats
Our Jaheel Hyde advanced to the men's 400m hurdles semi-finals with a second-place finish in Heat 1 and a time of 49.08 seconds. Roshawn Clarke won his heat with a time of 48.17 seconds. So did Malik James-King, who won his heat with a time of 48.21 seconds. So far the menโs 400m semi-finals Jamaica will have 3 participants.
Womenโs 400m Heats
Finishing second in her heat with a seasonโs best of 50.16s, Stacey-Ann Williams qualified for the women's 400m semi-finals. Nickisha Pryce claimed first place in Heat 2 with a time of 50.02 seconds and Junelle Bromfield finished third in her heat with a time of 51.36 seconds. All 3 will be participating in the 400m semi-finals.
Menโs Discus Semi-finals
Traves Smikle, just shy of securing an automatic top-three qualifying spot with a throw of 65.91m, has secured a place in the men's discus final. Roje Stona clinched second place in Group B with a throw of 65.32m, becoming the second Jamaican to qualify for the discus finals. Ralford Mullings also booked his spot in the men's discus final with a throw of 65.18m, completing the trio of Jamaican qualifiers.
Menโs 200m Heats
Team Jamaica's Andrew Hudson, who finished fourth in heat 2, will need to compete in the repechage round to qualify for the men's 200m semi-finals. Bryan Levell, after finishing third in his heat, will also need to compete in the repechage round to advance to the men's 200m semi-finals.
Womenโs 200m semi-finals
Niesha Burgher and Lanae-Tava Thomas both finished fifth in their respective semi-finals and will not advance to the womenโs 200m final. This marks the first time since 1976 that we have not had a competitor in the final.
Gold: 0
Silver: 2
Bronze: 1
Here are some interesting moments caught by camera of our team on Day 5 of us participating at the Paris Olympics games.
Here is what social media had to say to our athletes on day 5.

Donnell Brown: "Athletics need fi rest a Ja a bit, get the programs and facilities updated, get solid committed and focused folks ready then compete, cause this ain't it. Too much bare minimum performance tbh"

Despite some disappointment, Jamaica still has several days left to participate in the summer games and ultimately a chance to win some medals. Our athletes have been doing their best, some even with injuries.
The competition this year has been tough but itโs not over yet. Do you think we can recover?
