Day 4 for Jamaica, August 4 2024, was another active day for us. We participated in several events… and the results? Well, we were expecting better.

Let’s dive into what happened on day 4.
Men’s 100m Semi-finals
Kishane Thompson won his heat with a time of 9.80 seconds and Oblique Seville won his with a time of 9.81 seconds. Unfortunately, Ackeem Blake ran 5th in his heat with a time of 10.06 seconds and did not qualify for the men's 100m final.
Men’s 100m Finals
Kishane Thompson gave us our 2nd silver medal for the 2024 Olympic games when he placed 2nd in the men’s 100m with a time of 9.79 seconds, narrowly missing the gold to Noah Lyles by a narrow margin of 0.005 seconds.
Men’s 400m Heats
Jevaughn Powell qualified for the men's 400m semi-finals with a of 45.12 seconds. Both
Sean Bailey and Deandre Watkin did not automatically qualify in their heats but will have another chance in the repechage.
Women’s 200m Heats
Niesha Burgher placed second in her heat with a time of 22.54 seconds and Lanae-Tava T finished second in her heat with a time of 22.70. Both will be participating in the semi-finals.
Women’s 400m hurdles heats
Team Jamaica’s Janieve Russell qualified for the women's 400m hurdles semi-finals with a time of 54.67 seconds while Shiann Salmon finished second in her heat with a time of 53.95 seconds. Rushell Clayton won her heat with a time of 54.32 seconds and will also move on to the semi-finals.
Men’s 110m hurdles heats
There are 3 Jamaican men moving on to the 110m hurdles semi-finals. Rasheed Broadbell finished second in his heat with a time of 13.42 seconds, Hansle Parchment finished 5th with a time of 13.43 and Orlando Bennett came in second with a time of 13.35 seconds in his.
Men’s long jump semi-final
Wayne Pinnock qualified for the men's long jump finals, placing 5th in Group B, while Tajay Gayle, with a jump of 7.78m, fell short of the 8.15m qualifying distance and did not make it to the men's long jump finals.
Women’s 200m Heats
Jamaica's Lanae-Tava Thomas won second-place finish in her heat with a time of 22.70 seconds and Niesha Burgher also finished second place in her heat with a time of 22.54. Both qualified for the semi-finals.
Our two-time world champion Shericka Jackson did not compete in the 200 meters, much to our disappointment. It was announced just before her heat, that Jackson would not be participating, due to injury.
Gold: 0
Silver: 2
Bronze: 1

We were able to get another medal on the table and for that we are excited. The day did not go exactly as we planned but hopefully day 5 will be a day of wins for us.
