Re: What's Your Dream Jamaican Christmas?
I have already had my dream Christmas Vacation in Jamaica ... and it changed my life and the lives of my family.
Yes, it was a tropical paradise, far removed from what we experience in snowy Canada.
More importantly, it taught us a lot. We have too much in North America and don't stop there ... we want more.
Right now, we are bombarded with ads to "buy the perfect gift" spend, spend, spend on stuff you don't need or want and that will end up in a drawer by Valentine's Day, never to be used again.
In Jamaica? It's a poor country. They don't have the money to waste on useless baubles and "stuff" just because you "have" to give a gift.
We no longer exchange gifts. With anyone. We no longer waste money and (more importantly) resources on "stuff".
I learned that Christmas is just another day, thankfully set aside to spend time with friends and family. Enjoying their company. Exchanging the events of the past year, and looking forward to a new year (Happy New Year, when it comes" - I love that expression!).
You don't need "stuff". You need family and friends ... new and old. Here and gone - it's better this way.
