So, what would it be like if you were to visit Jamaica in June?

1. It’s The Low Season: Cheaper

June marks the beginning of the low tourist season in Jamaica, which lasts until November. During these months, the we have less tourists coming to the island, leading to less crowded beaches, resorts, and restaurants. This certainly allows for a more relaxed and intimate vacation experience, which is perfect for those looking to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Additionally, and the best part, in my opinion, accommodation is much more affordable during this time, so you may very well be able to book a 5-star all-inclusive resort for a fraction of the normal cost. Talk about a budget-friendly vacation!

2. The Weather is Nice

June is the start of summer in Jamaica, which automatically means the weather is a bit more warm and pleasant. It is also the beginning of the hurricane season, but no worries because significant storms are rare this early. On average the maximum daytime temperature is around 84°F (29°C), and the seawater temperature is a delightful 82°F (28°C), ideal for swimming and water activities. Expect about 7 hours of sunshine each day and roughly 13 hours of daylight, giving you plenty of time to enjoy outdoor activities. You can't really tell what it’s gonna be like in terms of the rain, we may have days where it rains for hours and also days where it’s the sun is out all day.

3. Fun Events and Activities

Visiting Jamaica in June means you can partake in some unique local events:

  • Jamaica National (JN) Racers Grand Prix: During two and a half hours of thrilling competition, some of the best athletes in the world and from Jamaica, including all the top athletes from Racers Track Club, will compete in this one-day international track and field championship. It's a thrilling experience for sports enthusiasts.
  • GATFFEST Film Festival: Global film and culture are celebrated at the top community short film festival in the Caribbean, GATFFEST Film Festival. GATFFEST, which began as a small film festival, has grown to become a significant cultural occasion where aspiring and seasoned filmmakers may present their work and engage with a wide range of viewers. This festival offers several nights of films from around the world, along with workshops for aspiring filmmakers. It's a cultural highlight that shouldn’t be missed.
  • Black River Film Festival: With special guests from acclaimed productions such as "Black Panther" and "Game of Thrones," attendees can expect an unforgettable lineup of film screenings, enriching masterclasses, dynamic panel discussions, and delectable culinary offerings. The festivities will culminate in an exciting afterparty, promising an immersive experience for movie enthusiasts and industry professionals alike.

4. Delightful Tropical Fresh Fruits

June is a delightful time for foodies, with a variety of fruits in season:

  • Mangoes: May marks the start of mango season, which extends into June. Jamaica offers a staggering variety of mangoes, such as Bombay, East Indian, and Julie.
  • Sweet Sop: This fruit, bearing from April to July, is known for its sweet, custard-like texture.
  • Pineapple: Jamaican pineapples are incredibly sweet, despite the local industry never taking off.
  • Breadfruit: Abundant from June through August, breadfruit is a versatile staple in the Jamaican diet, often roasted or fried.
  • Otaheite Apple: This pear-shaped fruit is dark red on the outside and snow-white inside, bearing fruit in June and July.

Why Choose June?

  • Lower Prices: As it’s the off-season, hotel rates are significantly lower, making it an economical choice.
  • Fewer Crowds: Enjoy a more peaceful and relaxed vacation with fewer tourists around.
  • Unique Events: Experience cultural and musical events that offer a deep dive into Jamaican culture.

June is an excellent time to visit Jamaica if you are looking for a more relaxed, less crowded, and affordable vacation. With warm weather, unique cultural events, and a bounty of seasonal fruits, your Jamaican adventure in June promises to be both enjoyable and memorable. So pack your bags, grab a cocktail, and get ready to soak up the sun on Jamaica’s beautiful beaches! Oh and book with us for some amazing savings or grab a copy of our ebook, Jamaica On A Budget, for a guide on how to plan a great trip to Jamaica without breaking the bank.
