QUESTION:.
Im wondering is it safe for lesbians in any part of Jamaica? Me and my girlfriend wanted to visit Mandeville, she has a friend that lives there.
My question is would there be a problem if we kissed and hugged in public. What about gay marriages? For woman can they get married to one another in Jamaica.

Hi Anonymous,
I have been waiting for a question like this for a while, thanks.
As it is now, Jamaica is still very homophobic. In my opinion, we are becoming more accommodating but we definitely not where you would like us to be.
And while the public is a bit more 'forgiving' to females (lesbians) than males, I would certainly not advise you to kiss in public.
That said, there are probably thousands of lesbians here, I've personally met a few, but the Jamaican public will never readily recognize them.
As far as I know gays can have a marriage service in Jamaica - we have some recent cases- but the marriage will not be legally recognized by the state.
I welcome additional comments from my other site visitors on this subject.
Stay in touch.
