The answer is most certainly and this horse-riding journey and take you from the hills or the rainforest to the sandy shores of the Caribbean Sea.
Can you ride horses in the water in Jamaica?
A few tour companies include horseback riding as part of their package. Let's get familiar with them.
This company was born out of a combined love for horses and the game of polo. If you know anything about polo, then you would have realised that the name of the company is synonymous with Polo.
At first, the horses used for the game on Saturdays were allowed some time to relax before heading back to their right place. Then when tourists became fascinated with riding the horses in the water, it became a tourist business.
That is how the first Chukka Location was founded. The horseback ride and swim package is now offered at their St. Ann location. The horseback tour takes you along backcountry trails and through a historic sugar plantation before heading down to the shores for a “swim” with your horse. No prior horse riding knowledge is necessary.
Chukka will arrange to pick up 30-60 minutes earlier than the arrival time for the excursion for guests at all major hotels. They will also drop you back at your hotels. Lunch is included in the package as well.
You will need to bring appropriate clothes that will be comfortable on horseback as well as in the water. You can read more about Chukka’s offerings islandwide, right here.
Suzette Tours Jamaica takes you through rural communities before leading you to the golden sands in Mammee Bay. You will also get to learn interesting details about the country, your surroundings and notable landmarks along the way.
You have two options here when horseback riding. You can do it in addition to a trip to Blue Hole Ocho Rios or Dunn’s River Falls.

This excursion is a combination of other must-do activities in Ocho Rios including Dunn’s River Falls, Ziplining and ATV rides. After climbing the Dunn’s River, you will move on to the Ride and Swim leg of the trip. You will ride from the land straight to the Caribbean Sea.
Finally, you will head from the calm stroll on horseback to the challenging dirt trails through the picturesque countryside. With El Sol Vida Tours you can create a custom itinerary as well.
Another combo deal. But this time, there are no falls or ATVs in sight. The bamboo rafting experience is another excursion synonymous with a typical Jamaican vacation.
But just before you go rafting down the river, take a stroll on your horse along with other guests and your trustable tour guide first.
Guests staying at hotels in Ocho Rios will enjoy complimentary transportation to and from the excursion. If you are outside the pickup zone, don’t worry too much.
Transportation can still be arranged for you, so you won’t have to get there on your own, but additional costs will be incurred.
Yes, the average weight limit for the horseback riding experience is 225 to 250 pounds. Only one person will be allowed on a horse in most cases.
Swimming with horses in Jamaica can cost anywhere from USD 150-200. The cost depends on the tour company you choose and the package you get as well. The number of additional excursions will affect the price.
Under normal circumstances, yes, you can wear jeans when horseback riding. However, for the Ride and Swim, jeans will not be ideal as there is a part of most of these excursions that include water.
You will need clothes that are comfortable to ride and swim in. Athleisure might be a good call.
Each company has different policies when it comes to children riding. To find you, just reach out to these companies to know if it is allowed.
