I am always gushing about just how beautiful Portland is. One of the things that make the parish so special is just how “untouched” and unvarnished everything is.

Most of the attractions and beaches are in their natural unenhanced state with very little to no extra amenities to distract you from nature. You will also find that there are no sprawling, ultra-modern resorts in Portland like you would find in other tourist towns like Montego Bay, Ocho Rios and Negril.
Most accommodations will leave you feeling at one with nature, and the Goblin Hill Villas is one such place.
A location where the Blue Mountains and the Caribbean Sea converge in Portland, Jamaica, beckons with coves and sun-drenched beaches, rare hummingbirds darting amid the rich tropical flowers, and the sound of crickets makes you fall asleep.
Goblin Hill Villas at San San Bay, located in Port Antonio, is situated on twelve acres of lawn and gardens with views of the Caribbean Sea and stunning Jamaican white sand beaches.
Port Antonio, one of Jamaica's most pristine regions, offers a behind-the-scenes look at the old Caribbean. The television-free villa vacation lifestyle at Goblin Hill provides the most effective relaxation available.
Keep an eye on your children in their swimming pool from the comfort of your own room. Wi-Fi is free and available for email and basic web browsing. A basic digital entertainment system includes streaming music, news summaries for the day, and a movie library. The library also has cable television but I doubt you will need that.
A fifteen-minute stroll takes you to a white-sand beach where you can relax and sink your toes into the warm sand. A nature route around the grounds brings you through a little rain forest and rolling meadows to a terrace with views of an island and a bay, perfect for sunset cocktails.
Quiet neighbouring roads are great for steep walks beneath a tree cover. The Hummingbird Terrace with its bar and restaurant rounds out the impression of a laid-back vacation resort.
The villas of Goblin Hill are tucked together on a verdant hillside overlooking the turquoise waters of San San Bay, each with one or two air-conditioned bedrooms. The large villas have expansive lawns and gardens that they open into. Each bedroom has a private bathroom, ceiling fans, and air conditioning. All are completely self-contained and include living and dining areas, fully functional kitchens, and a large covered terrace or balcony with a private view of the Bay.
Ackee and saltfish, pumpkin soup, bammy, festival and the catch of the day, baked plantain, home-made ice cream or coconut pie for dessert, Red Stripe and Appleton rum—Jamaican food is a delight to sample.
They will bring breakfast and dinner to your villa for US$48 per adult daily (kids 7-12 $24, and kids 6 and under free). Or you can choose to cook for yourself in your villa kitchen. Alternatively, you can also bring your own chef.
When booking on their website, indicate whether you want a meal plan or will cook on your own in the Preferences box. Personal cook-housekeeper service is available for $36 per day.
There are 28 indigenous bird species in Jamaica. 22 of them can be located right there on their grounds, and their different morning sounds are varied and startling. The Jamaican Birdwatching Society has developed a list of birds spotted at Goblin Hill, which is available at the Reception desk.
You don't have to look far to see numerous hummingbird species hovering at their feeders, most notably the exquisite indigenous Doctor Bird, Jamaica's icon, with its long, twin, streamer-like, iridescent tail feathers.
They organize tours conducted by official JCDT rangers (Jamaican Conservation and Development Trust, in charge of the National parks) to some of the most famous bird-watching areas on the island and nearby for birders.
