Negril is best known for its sprawling hotels, romantic restaurants, breathtaking sunset views, steep cliffs and the wide expanse of white sand beach that is the Seven Mile.
Well, we have already mentioned the Seven Mile. There are many hotels on the beach but even if you aren’t a guest at these hotels, you can still have access to parts of the beach. You can also have an appetizing meal or drink at one of the many beach restaurants and bars.
Seven-Mile isn’t the only beach in Negril either. There is also
Negril is great for all kinds of motorised and non-motorised watersports. You can parasail, snorkel, scuba dive, ride jet skis, take glass bottom boat tours, go fishing or take catamaran tours.
There are different types of catamaran tours, from high-energy party boats to late-evening dinners.
There are many “Blue Holes” in Jamaica. The highlight of this trip is to jump into the hole made from limestone rocks into the Caribbean Sea below. But if you aren’t keen on jumping you can just try the relaxing pool instead.
While the water-based activities are suspended when it gets dark for safety reasons, the bar is open well into the night sometimes into the next morning.
If you would prefer to stay directly in Negril, there is still a lot you can do. For example, you can:
While it is a cafe serving delicious food one who has been to Rick’s Cafe knows it comes second to the views, especially as the day draws to a close. The sunset has been the highlight of many people’s day for many years.
After the sunset, you can go back to watching the divers jump off the 80ft drop and perform tricks sometimes. You can jump off too if you aren’t afraid.
JamWest has everything from a petting zoo to an ATV course through the off-roads. There is also the pushcart, zipline and water parks. To do any motorised activity, you will have to bring a valid driver’s licence to operate them. If you do not have a driver’s licence, you will be unable to do them.
Margaritaville is a good day out for the entire family. The beach is inviting and calm so, there is no need to worry about the children as long as they are supervised. You aren’t allowed to take food with you as food is sold on the property. You don’t need to pay for admission.
It is very common for excursions to take you outside of Negril for a while and it can be as close as under half an hour or as far away as the Ys Falls almost 2 hours away. Whether these trips will take you near or far, it is good to experience other parts of Jamaica while you are here.
You won’t have to head all the way to Ochi if you are in Negril and would love the Dolphin Cove experience. At the Montego Bay location, you will be able to meet, greet and swim with the dolphins, feed ostriches and so much more. This is located approximately 45 minutes from Negril, just outside Montego Bay.
There are 4 Chukka locations in the western parts of Jamaica. These are Chukka Eco Outpost at Good Hope, Chukka Montpelier, Chukka Lethe and Chukka at Sandy Bay.
Each location focuses on different kinds of activities so it simply depends on what you would like to do. From Negril, the closest location would be Chukka Sandy Bay which has horseback riding, an intense multiple zipline course that ends in the sea and ATV rides among other activities.
Lethe has the country bus tour and river rafting and Good Hope is an eco wonderland with pools, rivers, mini falls and, river cabanas for those who would prefer a relaxing day instead.
The Zimbali Culinary Tour comes highly recommended. It is a deep dive into our culture as it offers an opportunity to learn more about how Jamaicans cook and why we are so passionate about the ingredients we use.
If you are familiar with Reggae music, then you must know of Peter Tosh. The reggae superstar was born in the small seaside community of Belmont, Westmoreland and is his final resting place. You can tour his home, and burial site, and even meet friends and family of the Reggae icon.
Heading to the South Coast unlocks a whole other world of attractions. If you have a rental, you might be able to visit some of these attractions outside of Negril.
Staying at the resort is tempting, but now that you see what an amazing time is in store, I’m sure you will consider these excursions in Negril, Jamaica.
