Sustainability is very important, especially with all the environmental issues the world as a whole is facing. Sometimes in the name of comfortability and convenience, we cause more harm to the environment than we even bother to think about.

However, all is not lost. There are some eco friendly hotels in Jamaica leading the charge and creating relaxing, comfortable and even luxurious accommodations for their guests that are of little to no consequence to the environment.
The south coast is the perfect place to be if you wish to avoid large crowds. As a laid back fishing village and farming community, there are hardly any disruptions to your relaxation.
Jake’s Hotel supports low environmental impact activities and often partners with local tour companies who are passionate about the area and preserving the environment.
They donate frequently to BREDS, the local foundation that supports youth aid and conservation efforts.
On the property, conservation is practised heavily as well.
Local farmers supply produce on the property and there is even a direct farm to table dinner once a month. The Treasure Beach Ital Farmers Association is an association of organic farmers who refrain from using chemically enhanced products to grow their plants.
Jake’s Hotel works closely with them as well to supply some of their well-needed ingredients for daily use in the kitchen. While they do prepare seafood, they are never available unless the animal is in season.
Accommodation
The 49 bedroom boutique hotel offers oceanfront bungalows with a private deck and 2-3 bedroom villas with a private kitchen and outdoor shower.
They also have the Driftwood Spa which uses natural ingredients in its health and wellness practices.

One of Jamaica’s most forward eco-accommodations. Nestled between the Blue Mountains and the Caribbean Sea in Port Antonio, this 10-bedroom villa is a nature lover’s paradise.
It has 21 international awards under its belt for its commitment to sustainability. A fact that shouldn’t be surprising considering the steps they have taken to remain environmentally conscious.
Accommodations
10-bed rooms of varying views and sizes. Children 1-12 can stay for free in their parents' room and one additional bed can be requested and a baby cot if needed.

Kanopi House has been about sustainability even when it was just a concept. What is fascinating is that no trees were felled to accommodate the construction of the hotel. The hotel was built around nature, to the point where building plans were changed and rooms were built around trees to preserve the natural landscape.
Their treehouse accommodations take glamping to a new level and you can relax even more knowing your trip will not cause harm to the environment in any way.
Organic local farmers supply the resort with the produce it needs to provide its guests with great meals and water used on the property is used for irrigation.

A Green Globe participant and a big supporter of local environmental and community aid, Jamaica Inn has managed to combine luxury and sustainability.
Their biggest contribution to the environment comes through their constant and much-needed efforts to save the Hawksbill Turtles which are an endangered species and as such the shores of the Jamaica Inn are used as hatching grounds for the turtles.
In August there is a hatching ceremony, where you can watch the new turtles make their way to the ocean. Guests on the property are welcome to join in.
In addition to this, tree planting is done annually on Earth Day, the use of solar panels lessens energy consumption and recycling efforts reduce waste.
The hotel is small at 52 rooms and has rooms and suites of varying sizes to cater to single persons or larger groups. They also have 3 meal plan add-ons to customise your stay even further. You have the option to choose between; European Plan, Modified American Plan or the All-Inclusive option.
