Bad News, Good News

I hope you are doing well today.

I consider you (and all my website fans) a very important part of my life, and so, I feel I need to bring you up to speed with some recent happenings in my personal life.

So what do you want to hear first? The Good or The Bad?

THE BAD


Well, you know that, as much as I dedicate much of the time to this awesome website, sharing Jamaica with the world, I also had a day job at a big multinational company here in the Montego Bay, Jamaica - right?

Well my friend, they made a couple of us (two managers) redundant yesterday! :-(

I have been there close to 10 years though and watched that happened around me for years, so I (as any smart person would) figured it would only be a matter of time, unless I moved on.

Well it unfolded yesterday but I take it as the nature of the business, especially with these outsourced business operations.

AND THE GOOD NEWS?



I feel delivered! Many never expected me to react the positive way I did.

But I feel that God is setting me up for something big (I feel it) and believe me, I am ready... just praying for health and strength :-)

I have been going through some stuff and I think he smiled at me and is saying, "this is your time!"

I believe there is some much more for me to do; on this website, in corporate and community, so I am truly looking forward this new chapter - with great anticipation.

So look out world! :-)

Today is my BIRTHDAY! (August 29).

Perhaps not a welcome event for a birthday, some would say. But rest assured my friend, I will be having a wonderful day today!

In fact, my family has already started to make it happen.

Just want to add that God ALWAYS make a way for His children and He does not make mistakes. Everything that happens to us in our lives is definitely for a reason, God has already made provisions for us.

I'm sorry that I didn't read your message earlier. I'm a little busy: Though I am retired, I started to teach again. My classes are full of refugees who want to learn the German language. Imagine, people from India, Benin, and Syria are sitting in front of you and speak only their native language. This can be funny and is very interesting.
It's a shame that only few European countries help the countless refugees.

Hi Welle4sley. First happy belated birthday. I hope it was your best ever.

I do not share the opinion that your position being redundant was bad news. When my position was made redundant at a certain company, (of course another person filled that position) I was not sad - matter of fact I celebrated with a couple of friend and had a champagne evening.

Your being away from a job you held for 10 years is a way for you to new re-invent yourself. You will be surprised at the opportunities that will now open up for you. Alternatively you might want to be your own boss. I know you are not short of ideas and will make it. Good luck.

I too was let go after 21 years with the same company, and yes it left me feeling down but just for a brief time.

I had to look at all the positive things that I had going on in my life. after all I had my faith,my health,great friends that I made at work and my family.

Due to one of the great friendship that developed I am now working for a wonderful company and a great staff and making the same salary that it took 21yrs to make.

Just remember that sometime we get so comfortable in a situation that god has to move us to bigger and better.May god bless you and your family....Olivia

I went through a similar situation 18 yrs ago, I felt down for a day or so. Then I thought like you - find the good in the bad. Found things that needed doing at home, kept my faith & an old cus-tomer called to say she heard about my redundant
situation - loved your way of saying that - and was wondering what I was doing. After sharing a laugh - said I was building my wife a deck, dock
and porch - the truth - she asked if I was inter-
ested in stopping to meet with her about a job. I have been there since two days after the meeting.

Our Son lost his job a few months ago now and we felt so bad for him and he said Mum don't feel bad God as something better for me and a couple weeks later he got this job he has now and really loves it. First and foremost, remember that God has a plan for you. One that you may not even know about, but He is in control. When one door closes another will be opened by Him if you trust and believe. Secondly, we as human beings always want to find the bad in a situation. But don't look for bad. Take what you have learned in this journey and realize that that journey was just a lesson to help you with the next step God has planned for you. A diamond starts out as carbon. Then it gets tried until that perfect diamond is made. Move forward into what God wants for you. And lastly,HAPPY BLESSED BIRTHDAY!!

Man....I always say whenever a person is happy about a particular situation in their live I am happy for them. So I am not going to say I'm sorry you lost your job. I'll say 'congratulations'!

I felt the same way when I got laid off in 2013. Because I knew God was setting me up for higher heights and deeper depths! And I am realizing dreams that would not be feasible had I still been with the fortune 500 company I was with. Greatful for the blessings I enjoyed there but I was ready to move on and people didn't understand. Because you see my brother....my hope is built on nothing less than Jesus love and his righteousness! Go live your dreams my brother....God bless and happy birthday!

on a serious note though i suggest you buy some shares in supreme ventures ltd. with your windfall as they are undervalued considering they pay dividends every few months (better than interest, the value will appreciate in short order, and jamaicans will never stop buying cash pot, lotto, top draw and all the rest. work out how much US$ you are actually paying for one and you will see the value for money. nuh badda start no business fi staff, tief yu, govt. over tax yu, jps gi yu big lite bill, yu haffi hire dis heap a security...need i say more?

It is good that you look at losing your job the way you do. When one door closes God opens a bigger and better one, it may not be at the same time but He surely will if you believe and trust in Him with all your heart. Put God first in everything that you do and you will be surprised what He does for you .

You've been delivered from that job but to where are you being delivered? Only God knows that and as you seek Him He will reveal it to you. Thank you for this amazing website my friend. God may want you to do more with it while you are between assignments or God may want its improvement to be your next assignment or He may have something entirely new awaiting you.

I too was made redundant last year from a job of 25 years and I am 73 years old. But God had a place for me in full time ministry here in Jamaica. It is primarily a prayer warrior ministry from a wonderful place hidden away in Ocho Rios. It is entirely supported by mine and my wife's Social Security income from America. So I will be praying for you to soon be taken to the place that God has for you too my friend.

The verse that I feel Jesus personalized and gave to me when I first arrived here, I believe also applies to you Wellesley....

Dear Wellesley! We don´t know each other, my name is Wolfgang and I´m from Austria! I´m a follower of your page since months.

I started in 1984 when I was 20 years of age to go the first time to Jamaica, Kingston , Montego Bay and Negril.

Over the last 31 years I spend there already 15 times. The last time I was there was already 2005, so a long time ago. Since I read your comments it´s bringing me something back of my youth what I experienced there.

The warmness and friendliness of people. The person who made me lovin´ this country so much was the Chin family, Junior, the owner of Toby Inn, Clinton, the oldest brother, whom I met sometimes at Sea Castles or the Montego Bay Club and especially Vernon Chin, the owner of Sea Shell Inn.

He was the one who made me love - as a foreigner - this country so much! Sea Shell Inn doesn´t exist anymore as a Hotel and the private property, where I used to stay in the good old times, Hopewell/New Milns was sold by Vernon and he lives now at the property of Sea Shell Inn.

I really had good times in Montego Bay, like at the Tree Bar at Toby Inn, blowin´ away by Gilbert, Cornwall Beach at it´s best, celebrating till in the morning, the Fantasy Hotel with it´s huge tree inside, Sir Winston Reggae Club, the Seawind Hotel with the discothek The Cave, in 84 I was even going by train from Kingston to Montego Bay, Gilbert blew it away too. What an experience!

I was meeting Ninja Man and Lennox Lewis at Pj´s in MoBay. Tony ten from Tony´s Pizza, Sugar T who was DJ at Cornwall Beach, Miss Gloria from Gloriana Hotel, I think I can´t stop anymore. All this memories...

Wait I´m not finished I´m livin nowadays in Austria for the last ten years with a Jamaican woman, better it´s not goin´ anymore.

Today the Jamaican were showing the world again who are the best runners, especially Bolt. I hope in 2017, when we will return to Jamaica to visit her relatives we have the chance to meet each other, and may-be for a short time it will let you forget the troubles what you have right now in your life.

But one thing is for sure you are having two more friends which are sharing your pain. Love from Austria from Wolfgang & Janett

Losing a job can be one of the most stressful things that people go through and it makes us grieve in much of the same way we do when we lost someone close to us.

But your positive attitude will help you recover your spirit and begin to think about the future."This is only a temporary setback".

There are so many people who look up to you. I am sure you have overcome other challenges in the past and you are an excellent writer and a great researcher.Looking forward, I would like to encourage you to consider the future instead of focusing on what went wrong in the past job. send me your resume and I will pass it around to some people I know. You are a great guy I would really love to meet you. I was in Jamaica 12-19 August and I am planning on coming back in December. I too was made redundant. It was the best thing that happened to me. I move home, moved country and started a totally new venture.

Now have my own business and couldn't be happier. My old colleagues keep telling me how lucky I am to have left/escaped/got out (their words, not mine). And I did all this at 50 years old. It's never too late to start over! Good luck.
