I would consider my Jamaican husband to be fairly progressive, but there are a few tenants from his upbringing that he holds dear.
He has quietly suggested that we refrain from having a big birthday celebration for our first born's first year.
He hasn't gone into detail, but he mentioned that making a fuss over the first birthday is considered taboo, and that it's customary to celebrate your little one on his/her 2nd birthday.
Have you heard anything about this? Many thanks!
