Wood Carvings In Green Island Jamaica

Sherry Baker,
one of my esteemed patrons made a request of me a while ago, a challenging one I must admit, but I was committed to help.
I was unsuccessful at first, but its amazing that what you are searching for sometimes find you!
Here's her question, or should I say, her request, with my response (solution).
Hi Wellesley,
I'm hoping you can help me. I was in your gorgeous country the third week of February.
Going and coming to and from Jackie's on the Reef (Negril), in Green Island, I saw beautiful wood carvings outside in front of a business.
Each time I passed, I missed it and didn't ask the driver to turn around, something I now regret.
Also, I didn't think I could carry the mermaid I got a glance at on the airplane home.
IF you possibly know of this place, I'm wondering, if possible, if you know the carver or the business and/or their website.
I saw no names but beautiful wood carvings of a Rastaman, mermaid, etc., large and smaller. Of course, I like the big ones (smile).
If you don't know, I fully understand and appreciate your attention. Sherry in Detroit, Michigan, USA
RESPONSE: by WellesleyHi Sherry,
I think I have your answer!
Just so you know, I drove around there sometime ago, but was unsuccessful in locating the carver. But luck has it that on a recent visit to the
Rastafari Indigenous Village IRITs event, they had presentations and displays by carvers, from primarily the western side of Jamaica, including Trelawny, St. James and Hanover!
And guess what? The artist/ sculptor from Hanover was a gentleman from, yes, Green Island! I got his name. His name is Mason. His Jamaican phone number is 876-361-8933.
I believe it is him, not only because of his product display in relation to what you mentioned, but also where he is located in Green Island.
In a followup call with him (well his assistant), I learned that he is located near the square in Green Island, just about a chain after passing the Post Office on the right hand side, on your way from Negril in the direction to Montego Bay.
So again, the contact number is
876-361-8933, and his name is Mason.
Reach out to him my friend. I'd be happy to get an update from you later.
All the best!
