For vacation Kingston sometimes gets overshadowed by our beachy towns like Negril, Ocho Rios and Montego Bay. But as our capital city and cultural hub, Kingston has some quite unique offerings and one of a kind experiences. Here are 7 unique things you can do in Kingston on your next visit.

While everyone talks about Devon House for its world-famous ice cream, let’s switch it up. You can stop by the Crepe House in the Artisan Village for a treat that’s just as satisfying. They offer both sweet and savoury options; their crepes blend traditional flavours with a Jamaican twist, the perfect grab-and-go meal as you explore the grounds.
And don’t miss the Devon House Bakery, where the aroma of freshly baked patties, cakes, and pastries will tempt you at every turn. Grab a flaky patty or a slice of cake, and enjoy your goodies on one of the charming outdoor benches.
Reggae’s roots run deep in Trench Town, and visiting the Trench Town Culture Yard gives you a chance to experience history in a living, breathing way. Operated by local residents, this site offers a glimpse into the life and music of legends like Bob Marley. But it’s more than just a historical landmark, it’s an opportunity to connect with the community and see the Trench Town of today. The stories here aren’t polished for tourists; they’re real, raw, and deeply rooted in Jamaican culture.
Think Kingston isn’t the place for waterfalls? Think again. Tucked away in the lush hills of St. Andrew, just outside the city, lies Falling Edge Falls. Also known as Bowden Hill Waterfall, this hidden gem offers a serene escape from the urban hustle.
Unlike the popular falls in Ocho Rios, this spot feels like your own private retreat. Getting there involves a short hike through vibrant greenery, and once you arrive, you’ll find tranquil pools perfect for a refreshing dip. It’s a great choice if you’re staying in Kingston and want a nature-filled adventure without venturing too far.
Surfing in Jamaica? Yes Please! At Jamnesia Surf Club, located at Bull Bay near the Kingston-St. Thomas Border, you can catch some waves or learn the basics of this underrated sport. Operated by the Wilmot family, this surfing haven isn’t just for pros, it’s a welcoming spot for beginners, too.
Even if surfing isn’t your thing, the vibe here is unbeatable. Chill out on the beach, enjoy delicious local food, and soak up the laid-back atmosphere with fellow beach lovers.
For a dose of relaxation with a side of history, head to the Rockfort Mineral Bath. Believed to have healing properties, these mineral-rich waters were discovered after the 1907 earthquake. Soak in the therapeutic pools, enjoy the lush surroundings, and recharge your body and mind.
The facilities include snack bars, lockers, and picnic areas, making it a fun and rejuvenating stop. Just remember, for health reasons, you can only stay in the water for about 45 minutes to an hour.
Once the “wickedest city in the world,” Port Royal was a notorious pirate hub during the 17th century. A visit here feels like stepping back in time. Explore the remnants of Fort Charles, rusty cannons, and fascinating artefacts from its swashbuckling past.
Half of the city sank after a massive earthquake in 1692, but what remains is rich in history and stories. Whether you’re a history buff or just looking for something different, Port Royal is worth the trip.
If you want to experience Kingston like a local, a trip to Coronation Market is a must. Known as the largest and oldest market in the English-speaking Caribbean, it’s a bustling hub where vendors sell everything from fresh produce to handmade goods.
Yes, it’s chaotic and lively, but that’s part of the charm! Wander through the vibrant stalls, chat with vendors, and sample local delicacies. It’s a sensory overload in the best way possible.
Kingston offers a unique mix of urban culture, history, and hidden natural gems. So, next time you’re planning a trip to Kingston, Jamaica, make sure to give these places a try.
