History

For more than 100 years, Singer Jamaica Limited has operated in Jamaica and throughout the world. When the business started operations in Jamaica, it sold sewing machines.

Sales representatives visited potential clients in the field, carrying images of sewing products. The item was hand-carried to the purchaser after the sale was completed. Four employees worked in the initial retail establishment on Harbour Street, which only sold one sewing machine daily.

Since then, the business has grown significantly, and in addition to its sewing machine line, it now sells a variety of electronics, appliances, furniture, and bedding. Over 200 Jamaicans are directly employed by Singer, which has 19 locations across the island.

What you can find at singer:

  • Appliances: small appliances, cooling, cooking, freezing, refrigerators, laundry and installation services.
  • Computers: laptops, tablets and printers
  • Electronics: television and audio systems
  • Furniture: bedroom and beddings, dining, entertainment, home office and kitchen
  • Sewing: artisan sewing, consumer and industrial sewing

Singer Jamaica Credit Options

Almost any financial condition may be accommodated by credit options, which makes purchasing on credit at Singer very simple. Singer offers a number of credit options:

  • 50/50 Plan - You can purchase the item by paying half the cash price in this option. Then, you are expected to cover the remaining payment in thirty days.

  • Price For 3 Months In Cash - Singer extends this unique promotional offer at various points throughout the year. Simply pay 25% of the Cash Price inclusive of GCT, then spread out your payment over the following three months in three equal instalments of 25% each.

  • 180 Days Interest-Free - You can buy at their standard cash pricing and have six (6) months to pay for the item in full without incurring interest fees. Simply pay a 20% down payment, followed by six equal payments. 180 days after delivery, the last payment is due.

  • Additional Credit - Customers may cancel their accounts at any point between one and thirty-six months by making recurring monthly payments.

  • Three references of which two must be relatives
  • A photograph

The singer is not just about providing great credit, furniture and appliances. They have been an active part of the development of Jamaica and its people.

Taught Jamaicans to Sew

Singer Jamaica has been teaching sewing from retail locations since 1940, realising the value of individual growth and particularly the independence of women. They have trained over 7,000 Jamaicans to sew at their sewing academy.

Many people have been able to start their own dressmaking businesses and support their families as a result of these sewing programs.

Singer Jamaica has donated sewing machines to many secondary schools and skills development centres across the island to help with their sewing programs and has even given adolescents in Kingston and rural Jamaica specialised training in fields like garment construction, machine embroidery, and drapery making.

Assistance to Schools/Homes

Singer has provided sewing machines to various schools as a kind of assistance. They have also, through collaborative initiatives with children's homes and governmental organisations, been able to teach young people to sew. Singer has provided houses for children and the elderly with furniture and appliances for many years.

Supporting Local Manufacturers

As seen by the reliance on regional furniture suppliers, Singer is dedicated to supporting the development of Jamaica's small manufacturers. Currently, they purchase 70% of their furniture locally from more than 30 suppliers, which collectively employ almost 400 Jamaicans.

In order to continuously improve the quality of their products, the furniture makers are encouraged to come up with innovative and appealing designs and to collaborate closely with the purchasing team and quality assurance staff.

Sports

Singer has contributed to and sponsored many sports events:

  • sponsor of the Jamaican Olympic Team to London 2012
  • sponsored the Digicel Junior Under 17 Caribbean Cup in 2017
  • sponsored athletes to participate in swim meets, badminton and track and field events overseas including the Penn Relays in 2005, 2006, 2008 and 2010.
  • 2010 and 2011 SINGER were sponsors of the Social Development Commission (SDC) National Twenty/Twenty Community Cricket Competition

Health

By conducting health screenings at stores across the island, Singer has collaborated with organisations like the Diabetics Association of Jamaica to help hundreds of Jamaicans obtain the medical treatment they would otherwise be unable to afford.

Singer Jamaica is indeed an integral part of Jamaica.
