Negril, Jamaica sees many tourists each year, they enjoy our food, and culture and spend a few days relaxing in the tropical climate.
Negril is also home to many forms of entertainment and attractions that could entice visitors.
Luckily for us, Negril is one of the safest places in Jamaica. The small, laidback coastal town is a great vacation destination if you would love a few days soaking up the sun on white sand beaches.
Negril is most famous for being the best place to catch the most beautiful sunsets. Watching the sunset at Rick's Café is almost a right of passage. The seven-mile beach, located in Negril, is one of the best beaches in Jamaica. The dramatic cliffs at West End are also a favourite.
Negril is safe both on and off the resort. There are hardly any reported crimes involving tourists in Negril; even, then, it will probably be petty theft.
Hotels in Negril hire security companies which provided guards for the resort and the beach and besides that, the police officers are always close by, both on land and at sea.
Yes, it is safe to walk Seven Mile Beach. You will see a vibrant mix of local and tourist activities along the beach which you can join in if you wish. Many eager vendors are mixed in as well and while they will not harass you, you might be asked to purchase many items by the end of your walk.
Yes, you can. In fact, many opt for this instead. The relaxed town has many reliable taxis operating, but, sometimes the places are not that far away and a good stretch of the legs is welcomed after being cooped up on the resort.
During the days especially, you can catch quite a few tourists walking around from various attractions, restaurants and shopping areas. But in the late evening, it is advised that you hop on a clearly identifiable taxi and head on to your destination, whether you are heading home or for a night out.
This is again not for a known issue with violence in Negril Jamaica but, simply as a precaution in case, this arrives.
The West End road is a little narrow and quite busy so I would advise against walking this road, especially if you have children.
There are some parts of Jamaica that are dangerous for everyone, not just tourists. These parts are usually inner cities that are suffering from intergang violence. The chances of someone getting hurt that was not involved are slim.
It is advised that you take extra precautions at night in Negril. Not because there are ongoing issues with crime in Negril but because being alert and aware of your surroundings is always important. It is best to travel by taxi at night to Negril.
There is a misconception that Jamaica is riddled with crime and violence no matter where you are. And, it would be naïve of me to think we do not have an issue with crime on the island as it is quite obvious.
However, the average Jamaican is not necessarily affected by this directly. When on vacation in Jamaica, especially the resort towns, you don’t need to be afraid, just be alert and apply the same level of caution as you would in every other unfamiliar place.
