How many days do you need in Jamaica? Many people travelling to Jamaica, may have only gotten a ten-day vacation from work. In most cases, a person on a 10-day vacation will need a day to get ready for the trip and probably 2 days after they return to recoup and prepare to get back to work. That leaves just about 7 days for them to explore the island.

Jamaica might be small but exploring the island in a meaningful and impactful in just 7 days is not something that will be easily achieved.

If this is you, and you are not sure how to spend your days, here is a seven-day breakdown of how you can spend your vacation in Jamaica.

If you are travelling to Jamaica for the first time or, if you plan on travelling around the island, Montego Bay is a good starting point.

Day 1

The first day can be quite draining. If you aren’t staying in Montego Bay, then your resort or whichever accommodation you decided on may be another 1½ at least. If you choose a hotel in Montego Bay, it will most likely be no more the 10-15 minutes away from Sangster’s International.

For the rest of this day, you can rest from all the travelling. You can stroll around your resort and get familiar with where everything is. While you are there, you can try out a few restaurants and relax at the pool.

If there aren’t many dining options, there are many restaurants in the area to try. Chill Out Hut or Scotchie’s, would be a great option to kick off your stay in a relaxed setting with authentic Jamaican food.

Day 2

By day two you should be rested and ready to start exploring. Since you will already be in Montego Bay, why not start there? A tour of the rose hall great house is a must, and use your evening to go bar and restaurant hopping on the hip strip, ensure you try the very popular Margaritaville.

Day 3

Venture out a bit further on day three to the parish of Trelawny, squeezing in as many activities as possible. Something you should do on that day includes going on a walking food tour in Falmouth, a visit to Green Grotto Caves and rafting on the Martha Brae river.

Day 4

You can head to Westmoreland's white sandy beach town, Negril. Start your day off by visiting the Blue Hole mineral spring, and the remainder of your day enjoying the seven-mile beach and exploring all the fantastic restaurants and bars spread across the beach, in the evening head to Rick’s Café to catch the most breathtaking sunset, have dinner and listen to live music, before you head back to your resort in Montego Bay.

Day 5

This is the day you head to Ocho Rios and try as you might, you will not be able to do everything that you would probably love to do. You can try fitting in swimming with the dolphins, climbing the Dunn’s River Falls and since they are right next door, head to Mystic Mountain for an adventure of ziplining through the rainforest, bobsledding, ATV riding and so much more.

Day 6

You could spend your last 2 full days on the other side of the island. Since you'll already be in Ocho Rios the day before, just continue to Kingston after your full day of activities in the adventure capital. If you head back to Montego Bay, you will have to be up pretty early to travel to Kingston the next day. In Ocho Rios, you are already half way there.

It will be best to book a hotel or guesthouse for these last days and then depart at the Norman Manley International on your final day. When you get to Kingston, there might be just enough time to wind down for the night, but if you are up for it, the AC hotel is a great way to experience Jamaica's nighttime entertainment.

Since this is your final day on the island, you will want to get up super early. Head out early to Portland to climb the Blue Mountain and catch the sunrise at the peak. Spend the remaining of your morning visiting Frenchman Cove, Winifred beach and of course make a stop at the Boston Jerk centre before heading back to Kingston in the evening.

Day 7

Tourist Attractions In Kingston - Devon House JamaicaDevon House Kingston

Since it is your final day, I would suggest something more relaxing. The National Gallery, the Bob Marley museum and Devon House are some of the places you can tour during the day. Kingston has some of the best selection of restaurants on the island so in the evening head to the Market Place and choose from a great selection of fine dining restaurants.

Then, you can spend the rest of the night preparing to head home after your exhilarating week in Jamaica. Even after seven days, you will still be itching for your next trip, you haven't seen the south coast yet! Plus, you will have many exciting stories to share with everyone and I hope you have the pictures to prove it.

Be sure not to forget your camera! It is one of the Jamaican travel essentials for a reason.
