Is December a good time to go to Jamaica?

There is no bad time to visit Jamaica, but December certainly is one of the best times. Not only will you escape the cold, but we would have gone through the rainy months by then. While the likelihood of rain is still there it is fairly low. The chances of the weather thwarting your plans is significantly less.

The average daily temperatures are between 24 and 30 degrees Celsius. There is a 39% chance of rainfall in December.

Is it hot in Jamaica in December?

It is surely not as hot as the summer! Although Jamaica does not experience winter, it is cooler in December. So, not only will you not have to contend with the cold but it is not as blisteringly hot as the summer months were.

Is Jamaica a good place to go for Christmas?

ackee_and_saltfish.jpgAckee & Saltfish

Yes, it is. Aside from the weather, there are also many foods in season and it is right in the holiday season.

Many fruits are available this time of year including our National fruit, the Ackee, which means a breakfast of Ackee and Saltfish is a no-brainer. Other fruits like citrus, avocado (pear) and pineapples are also in season.

Most of our favourites are available year-round, But in December, our Christmas treats are on full display. Sorrel, Christmas cake and the works are somehow more delicious this time of year.

The lobster season is also open so you won’t have to pay an arm and a leg for imported lobster. Other seafood dishes are also available.

The entertainment scene is alive in December, with many parties on nearly every day of the week, especially in the week leading up to Christmas and boxing day.

Is it expensive to come to Jamaica in December?

December is right in the peak season for travel so the trip from airfare to hotels might cost more than in the off-season. The last two weeks of December which includes the Christmas Day to New Year's Eve period is definitely more expensive.

Can you swim in Jamaica in December?

Yes, you can. In some areas of the world, it is impossible to swim in December as some bodies of water have frozen over. Or even if it hasn’t it is certainly a health hazard to don a bikini and take a swim.

In Jamaica though, the Caribbean Sea is just as warm and inviting as every other time of the year. The rivers are generally colder than the seas are but they are still not “winter weather” cold.

What Should I Pack For Vacation In December

Light, breathable clothing and maybe a cardigan for the evening breeze and the mosquitos who might invade your personal space are in order. You should bring:

  • Pants
  • Button-Down Shirts
  • T-Shirts
  • Shorts
  • Skirts
  • Capris
  • Dresses
  • Sneakers (if you plan on going to the gym or having outdoor adventures)
  • Swimsuits and Cover-up

If you plan on having a more formal dinner one evening, then you may have to bring a few resort elegant pieces. You could check on the resort's website what the dress code for the restaurants is on the property.

Remember your medical supplies and toiletries as necessary for you.

There are surely no negatives to visiting Jamaica in December, are you ready to book your resort now? Montego Bay, Negril, Portland and Ocho Rios are the more frequented places on the island. But you can visit lesser-known parts of Jamaica as well that are just as fun. The South Coast is one prime example.
