It first started as separate schools; the Schools of Visual Arts, Music, Dance, and Drama were all independent schools at different locations around Kingston. However, in 1976 they were consolidated under the Cultural Training Centre, a division of the Institute of Jamaica. All four institutions were combined in 1995, and the institution was renamed Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts in honour of Edna Manley, OM, one of our pioneering artists from Jamaica.
Even though it is now one institution, Enda Manley College still offers separate schools of study, each with its own programmes and requirements. Along with those I list below, there is also The School of Continuing Education, where courses in artscope and kaleidoscope are offered.
The School of Dance offers a solid mix of academic and practical education to produce "well-rounded and informed artists." With the help of the School of Dance, you can work as a professional dancer, choreographer, teacher, administrator, advocate, community dance practitioner, production manager, event coordinator, writer, or researcher for a range of businesses and industries, including government agencies, media outlets, corporate settings, travel and entertainment businesses, musical theatre, professional dance companies, and educational institutions. Their Bachelor, Associate and Certificate programmes are:
The programme menu at the School of Drama facilitates minors in both Drama in Education, and Theatre Arts and degree completion for graduates who previously obtained a Diploma/certificate. The bachelor’s degrees on offer can be completed within 4 years while the associate degrees are done in 2 years. Their cadre of programmes include:
As you can probably assume, this school offers instruction in music education, music technology, and performance of both classical and contemporary music to aspiring musicians and music educators. Students take courses outside of their field of study, such as music business, development, creativity, and social enterprise. These courses equip students with the business, creative, and intellectual skills they need to become forward-thinking business owners in the rapidly changing music industry. Programmes include:
This school offers a platform for learners to come together and unleash their creative and innovative potential. Their programmes include:
The cultural and creative industries are a growing area of the global economy, and this school of arts management and humanities prepares you for a job in them. The emphasis of this course of study is arts administration or arts management. For those who are presently working in the management and administration of arts and culture organizations as well as those who aspire to work in these fields, the School of Arts Management and Humanities offers training in these areas as well. Their programmes include:
If you are applying for any of the Degree Programmes at the Schools of the Visual Arts, Dance, Drama, Music and Arts Management and Humanities, the minimum requirements are:
