Vernon’s Car Rental

Vernon’s Car Rental has been offering great deals on rentals since 1985. Now over, 35 years later, Vernon's continues to supply visitors and locals with reliable cars to see as much of Jamaica as possible and at their own pace.

In addition to rentals, they provide excursions, sightseeing tours and airport transfers not just to the Donald Sangster International in Montego Bay but to The Norman Manley International in Kingston.

Currently, they have a Nissan Tiida, Toyota Corolla and a Toyota Yaris for rent. On their request form, you can highlight the date and times you will be needing the vehicle and whether you will need to transfer services from the airport or hotel.

Pick-ups from hotels around Negril are free. They also deliver the car to your hotel as well. Should you go over the agreed-upon time you will have the vehicle it is USD 10 for each additional hour.

Economy Car Rentals

Economy Car Rentals has many vehicles that can accommodate 5 to 8 passengers at various price points. For some vehicles, you also have the option of having an additional driver added.

Unlike some car rentals in Jamaica, you have multiple locations to drop off the rental across the island so there is no need to head back to Negril unless you want to. They have economy, medium-sized, full-sized, automatic, SUV/convertibles, Stationwagon/minibuses and prestige cars.

Persons looking to rent vehicles under the age of 30 and over the age of 65 will be asked to pay a surcharge. Booking your rental in advance will save you money as the prices increase based on availability. Fuel and Highway tolls are not included in the cost of the vehicle.

What Are The Driving Licence Requirements?

A full driver’s license is needed to rent the vehicle. You will be asked to present it at the rental desk, provisional driver’s licenses are not accepted. If there will be co-drivers, they should be listed on the rental agreement and authorized to drive. Each person must have a valid driving licence and passport.

What documents do you need to rent a car in Jamaica?

The driver needs to present:

  • An ID and passport
  • A credit card to cover the deposit for the car
  • A driver’s license
  • The e-voucher that you have received with confirmation of the rental

Other car rental companies will have specific documents. It is best to check with the company you are planning to go with for the documents you need.

What is the age to rent vehicles in Jamaica?

Car rentals start at 21 in most cases, but some companies will allow persons to rent from the age of 18. Persons below 21 and above 65 often have to pay a surcharge to rent vehicles.

How long do I need to have held my licence to be allowed to rent a vehicle in Jamaica?

For most companies, a year is required. But not all rental companies, have a minimum period to have a driver’s license.
