What is Uber?

Uber is a ride-hailing firm that provides the Uber mobile app. With this app, you may request a journey that will be instantly delivered to an Uber driver nearby and let them know where you are. The accepting Uber driver will pick you up and take you to the specified location.

Without you having to speak to the driver or take out your money, the Uber app determines the driver's navigational path, calculates the distance and charge, and transmits the payment from your chosen payment method to the driver.

When did Uber come to Jamaica?

Since June 15th 2021, the app has been released with a "vehicle-with-driver" agreement in Jamaica. It claimed that the app acts as a conduit for communication between a lessor partner and a user, who consents to sign a private lease contract each time they need to travel within the city.

The corporation pointed out that under this approach, the user and the lessor partner sign a private agreement that requires strict adherence to the restrictions. The business also stated that Guardian Insurance covers all leases.

Is Uber available in Kingston?

Yes, Uber is available in Kingston. As a matter of fact Uber currently only operates in Kingston.

Is Uber available in Montego Bay?

No. Uber is not available in Montego Bay, however, there are many taxi services in Montego bay that you can choose from.

How to use Uber?

  1. Create a profile- A phone number and email address are all that is required. You can use the Uber app or your browser to make a ride request. Visit Google Play or the App Store to download the app.

  2. Enter the location- Open the app, then type your destination into the Where to? box. To be matched with a driver nearby, press to confirm your pickup location and then tap Confirm again.

  3. Meet your driver- Open the app, then type your destination into the โ€œWhere to?โ€ box. To be matched with a driver nearby, press to confirm your pickup location and then tap Confirm again.

  4. Verify your ride- Ensure you are getting into the proper car with the right driver every time you use Uber by comparing the license plate, car make and model, and driver photo with what is listed in your app. Never get in a car when the vehicle or driver identity does not match what is displayed in your app because Uber trips can only be ordered through the app.

  5. Lie back and unwind- When you get there, paying is simple. You have choices based on your region. Use money, a credit card, or your Uber Cash balance as a payment method.

How reliable is Uber in Jamaica?

According to ratings obtained through their app, Uber claims that Jamaica has the second-best service in the region. According to a press release, Jamaica was only surpassed by Puerto Rico for the top spot on a list of the Caribbean nations with the highest average ratings.

Uber drivers are evaluated on their neatness, timeliness, respect, and adherence to COVID-19 safety regulations, which include mask use and hand sanitization. The rating system allows for the rating of five stars for exceptional service and one star for subpar performance.

How to become an Uber driver in Jamaica

Your car must adhere to these minimal specifications to drive for Uber in Kingston. It must be:

  1. A four-door car with doors that open separately
  2. 10 years old or less
  3. In good shape with no cosmetic issues
  4. Free of all commercial branding
  5. Of a solid make and not rebuilt of salvagedNo rebuilt or salvaged vehicles
