Our island have produced several notable long jump athletes who have excelled at the national and international levels.
Jaydon Hibbert, born in 2005, competes in track and field for Jamaica. At the 2022 World Under-20 Championships, he won the gold medal in the triple jump after taking silver in the 2021 competition. The triple jump World U20 outdoor and indoor marks, as well as the Jamaican senior record, are all held by Hibbert. Which is quite impressive. At the 2022 CARIFTA Games in Kingston, Hibbert won the long jump and triple jump competitions in April of that year. He won the senior triple jump competition at the Jamaican Championships, held in Kingston, in June that year as well.
At the World U20 Championships final in Cali, Colombia, he made his first jump and smashed the competition record measuring 17.27 meters. In March 2023, Hibbert won the NCAA Division I Indoor Championships in Albuquerque, New Mexico, by clearing 17.54 meters, setting a new U20 world record in the triple leap. All these achievements at just 18 years old!
