Where is Laughing Waters Beach?

Often confused with James Bond Beach in St. Mary, Laughing Waters is on the north coast as well but a completely different water adventure. The water flows from the Roaring River in the hills of St. Ann, to the golden sanded shores of the Caribbean Sea which gives you the best of both worlds.

Most people will remember the famed beach as the scene from the first time we met James Bond and Honey Rider on the beach at Crab Key.

In fact, the Laughing Waters is sometimes referred to as Crab Key beach in honour of Dr. No. Without Dr. No’s accomplices chasing you down, you can have a leisurely day at the beach.

The Urban Development Corporation are in charge of operating the property which means it has retained its unaltered beauty captured on screen all those years ago barring a few safety measurements. It is operated on their behalf by the St. Ann Development Company.

Some persons, take the more “adventurous” route to Laughing Waters through the hills and along the waterfall down the beach to avoid going through the necessary channels. Locals especially will park along the road and through the fence which serves as a boundary for the private property.

If you do take this route, you may occasionally run into guards but they seldom bother you unless you are suspected of causing trouble. Despite this, the practice of entering a private property is not advised as you won’t be able to have the full Laughing Waters experience.

The Laughing Waters Villa

Usually reserved for government officials and state visitors, the Laughing Waters Villa is also up for rent as well. It has been the location of many weddings and other get-togethers for friends and families.

How do I find Laughing Waters?

The Laughing Waters property is located 20 minutes outside of Ocho Rios, not far from the well-known Dunn’s River Falls and Mystic Mountain.

How much does it cost to rent Laughing Waters?

As I mentioned before, Laughing Waters is private property. There is no admission fee for individuals to enter the premises. Instead, there are group rates to rent the entire property, minus the state residence, depending on the size of your group.

Current Group Rates

  • 75 persons - USD 1,000
  • 100 persons - USD 1,500
  • 150 persons - USD 2,000
  • 250 persons - USD 2,500

A deposit of USD 500 is required before each group is granted permission to use the property.

What Is There to do at Laughing Waters?

The expansive beachside is perfect for large gatherings of any kind. Many people use it as the backdrop for their big day while others use it for well-needed friend and family reunions. You can just bring your beach blanket and relax for the day, maybe a good book, or you can bring your beach ball for spirited games on the sand.

The water is calm and shallow for a good distance from the shore, making it great for kids. You will still have to supervise them of course. There are a few natural pools formed at various parts along the property from the river’s path to the sea.

There are small facilities on the beach to accommodate cooking so, your family can either bring the food already prepared or you may bring the ingredients and prepare it on the beach instead.

If you book your trip through a tour company, they may offer to prepare the food and drinks for the day.
