By Venesha Johnson | Associate Writer

For most first-time visitors to Jamaica, popular excursions like Dolphin Cove, Dunn's River Falls, and even Mystic Mountain are the must-see attractions. However, what happens if you're looking for more thrilling attractions on your second or third visit? Or perhaps it's your first time, and you're looking for special experiences? I'll give you seven excellent choices.

New! Take a piece of Jamaica with you💃!

Savour the memories!  Now you can get your authentic Jamaican souvenir items, as well as traditional Jamaican herbs, spices and housewares on our popular e-store. Click Here to learn more.

And, if you ever need a trustworthy and knowledgeable local guide, consider booking a private tour with us!

Remember this is not limited to guests. Many of us locals haven't had a chance to check these out, but we should! The thing that appeals to me the most about these seven is that you can only get some these experiences in a handful of places; in fact, several of them are exclusive to just Jamaica.

1. Sunken Pirate City at Port Royal

Port Royal was once dubbed "the most wicked and sinful city in the world", and with this adventure you get to dive into it's history... literally. This infamous pirate haven thrived in the late 1600s until a devastating earthquake in 1692 sank much of the city beneath the waves. Today, divers can explore the submerged ruins, where intact structures and artefacts offer a glimpse into a bygone era of piracy and colonial intrigue. The Museums of History and Ethnography in Kingston also showcase recovered relics, including a preserved pocket watch frozen in time since 1686.

2. Glistening Waters

Magical, that's the first word that comes to mind when I think of Glistening Waters. Here you can experience nature's magic up close and in person, where bioluminescent dinoflagellates create a mesmerizing light show in the lagoon waters. At night, these microorganisms emit a mystical blue-green glow with every movement, turning the surroundings into an otherworldly spectacle. Swim or take a boat tour to witness this natural phenomenon, which folklore claims holds rejuvenating properties—a perfect blend of science and local legend.

3. Firewater Pond

Venture off the beaten path to Firewater Pond in St. Ann. It is a unique natural spring where natural gases bubble to the surface, creating a serene yet flammable environment. The bubbling waters, caused by underground gas vents, offer a tranquil spot amidst tropical surroundings, resembling a peaceful spa with a twist. Visitors can admire the gentle bubbling and unique geological features that make this spot truly one-of-a-kind.

4. Floyd's Pelican Bar

Considered as the most unique bar in Jamaica and the only of it's kind in the caribbean, Floyd's Pelican Bar is a must visit. It's a rustic watering hole perched on stilts above Parottee Bay and is accessible only by boat. This bar was literally a dream turned reality for local fisherman Floyd Forbes, who built it from driftwood and thatch. Relax with a cold drink in hand, enjoy fresh seafood, and soak up the laid-back atmosphere while surrounded by turquoise waters. It's a perfect spot for swimming, sunbathing, and even a friendly game of dominoes.

5. Dinner In The Sky

For a dining experience like no other, indulge in Dinner In The Sky Jamaica, located in Negril. Suspended 45 meters in the air by crane, this unique restaurant offers panoramic views of the Caribbean coastline. Enjoy a gourmet meal with unlimited premium drinks while floating above the lush landscapes. It's an unforgettable blend of fine dining and breathtaking scenery, perfect for special occasions or simply to elevate your culinary adventure.

6. Swim with Horses

Can you imagine combining the thrill of horseback riding with the refreshing experience of swimming in the Caribbean Sea—sounds like an adventure straight out of a dream, right? That’s precisely what you get when you swim with horses in Jamaica. This unique activity, often found in places like Ocho Rios and Montego Bay, allows you to ride horseback along beautiful sandy beaches and then straight into the warm, inviting ocean. Trained guides ensure both your safety and the horses', so you can relax and enjoy the experience. It's an unforgettable way to connect with nature and experience Jamaica's stunning coastal beauty in a completely different way. The best part? You don't need to be an expert rider; this activity is designed for all skill levels.

7. The Rad V Swing

For those seeking a rush of adrenaline, the Rad V Swing in Snow Hill, Ocho Rios, is an experience you won't want to miss. Elevated 82 feet above sea level, this swing lets you soar high above the lush valley, offering panoramic views of Jamaica's stunning landscape. Just 1.3 km from Ocho Rios, the Rad V Swing is engineered with safety and thrill in mind, featuring impeccable craftsmanship and a generous weight capacity of up to 250 lbs. This makes it perfect for adventurers aged seven and up who are looking for a unique way to experience the island’s beauty.

These unique attractions in Jamaica promises you not just unforgettable experience, but the memories to last a lifetime to go along with it. I don't know about you, but I'm eager to try them all. What do you say? If you are ready for these experiences, start planning your trip to Jamaica and book with us for savings.
