With times of 9.58 seconds and 19.19 seconds, respectively, Bolt is the first person in history to hold the world records for the 100-meter and 200-meter runs. He also holds the world record for the men's 4x100-meter Jamaican relay team with a time of 36.84 seconds. He is the first athlete to win four 200-meter World Championship championships and the only sprinter to win gold medals in the 100- and 200-meter events at three successive Olympic Games in 2008, 2012, and 2016. He has also won three gold medals in the 100-meter competition. The BBC Overseas Sports Personality of the Year, the IAAF World Athlete of the Year, the Track & Field Athlete of the Year, the Laureus World Sportsman of the Year, and four other awards have all been given to Bolt.
Wint won the 400-meter event at the 1948 Summer Olympics in London with a time of 46.2 seconds, becoming Jamaica's first Olympic gold champion. He competed for Jamaica on the 4400-meter men's relay team that set a world mark and took home the gold medal at the Helsinki Olympics in 1952. Won the 800-meter race and a gold medal in the Central American Games in Panama in 1937. He won a silver medal in the 800-meters at the 1948 Olympics in addition to the 400-meter gold medal, and a silver medal in the 800-meters again at the 1952 Olympics in addition to the gold for the 4400-meter relay. He ran his last race in 1953, completed his medical internship, and became a doctor.
At the 2011 World Championships, Blake took home a gold medal, and at the 2012 London Olympics, he won silver in the 100- and 200-meter races. In the 100- and 200-meter races, he is second only to Jamaican Usain Bolt in terms of speed. He has timings of 9.68 and 19.26 seconds for his greatest performances. He now holds the junior national record for Jamaica in the 100 meters and was the youngest 100-meter world champion. Blake was formerly the youngest sprinter to break the 10-second barrier, doing so at the age of 19 years, 196 days.
In the 4100 relay in London in 2012, Carter won one Olympic gold medal. He also won three world titles in this discipline in the years 2011, 2013, and 2015. By clocking a time of 9.78 in Reti in August 2010, Carter became the fifth sprinter to break the 9.8-second barrier in the 100 meters. Only Bolt, Blake, Powell, Tyson Gay, and Justin Gatlin, two Americans, have run faster times than this one, which is still the sixth-best time in history.
Five decades ago, McKinley set a world record for the quickest 400-meter time. He is credited as being the driving force behind Jamaica's success in track and field. In 1947 and 1948, he broke world records, and he presided over Jamaica's Amateur Athletic Association. At the 1948 and 1952 Olympics, he participated in a total of six events and won one gold and three silver medals. He is the first athlete to have participated in the Olympic finals of all three sprinting events, the 100, 200, and 400 meters. He set three records in 1947: 10.3 seconds in the 100-meter dash, 20.4 seconds in the 200-meter dash, and 46.2 seconds in the 400-meter dash. He was the only person to ever accomplish this feat. He finished third in the 100, 200, and 400 meters at the inaugural Pan American Games in 1951, the only time this had ever happened. He was honoured for his achievements in athletics in 2004 with the Jamaican Order of Merit. 2007 saw his passing.
In the 1970s, Quarrie was one of the best sprinters in the world and one of the youngest athletes to represent Jamaica at the Olympics. With his sprint triple at the 1970 Commonwealth Games, he attracted notice from all around the world. He took part in five Olympics and took home four gold. He received a statue at the entrance to National Stadium in recognition of his five times being named Sportsman of the Year. At the 1976 Summer Olympics, he took home gold in the 200 meters and silver in the 100 meters. In 1971 and 1976, he matched the world records for the 200 and 100 meters, respectively.
In competition, Powell, a 100-meter specialist, has broken the 10-second barrier 97 times, more than any other runner in history. Between 2005 and 2008, he broke the 10-second barrier during competition and twice set the 100-meter record. His time of 9.72 seconds places him fourth among all-time great male 100-meter runners. He took home the gold in the 4100-meter relay at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio. He also took part in the 100-meter competition at the Olympics in 2004, 2008, and 2012.
Michael Frater, a sprinter born in 1982, excels in the 100-meter race. At the 2003 Pan American Games and the 2005 World Championships, he earned gold medals for his blistering runs. Additionally, he had success as a quarter of the Jamaican 4 x 100-meter relay team remembered for breaking not only the Olympic record but the World record as well at the unforgettable Summer Olympic games held in Beijing (2008). Additionally, he captured silver in the 2002 Commonwealth Games and gold in the relay there in 2006.
Each sprinter on this list has left an irreplaceable mark on the sport, inspiring generations of Jamaican athletes and captivating fans worldwide with their unrivalled speed and determination.
