Sir Donald Sangster - The Forgotten Jamaican Prime Minister

Sir Donald was acting prime minister for Jamaica from 1961 to 1967 when he became Prime Minister.

During his tenure he was also Finance Minister and was known as 'Mr. Jamaica'. Countries were willing to lend money to and do business with Jamaica based on his association.

Under his stewardship Jamaica became the fastest growing economy in the world. Singapore actually came to Jamaica to study us!

He raised capital to build the airport in mobay thus it was named in his honour. There is a lot more that he did.

There is a book currently out on Sir Donald. It was written by Hartley Neita who worked closely with him from the 1950's.

Unfortunately many young people do not know of Donald Sangster. I recently did an exhibition of antiques for a school for their Jamaica Day and i asked them various questions e.t.c.

Only one child heard of the name Donald Sangster. I have had several experiences of the same nature with other schools.
