I like to sometimes say that dancehall music is for having a fun time, letting loose and just overall good vibes, while reggae music is what feeds our hearts and souls.

It is so much easier to find a dancehall party spot or club in Jamaica but if you are looking to learn about and enjoy listening to reggae music you might have to do a bit of digging and I have done the work for you.

If you are a lover of the genre, you will enjoy this list.

Bob Marley Museum

There is no reggae with Bob Marley in the mix so of course the Bob Marley museum is the first on my list. It is located in Kingston and served as the legendary reggae musician's old residence.

Through a photo gallery, an 80-seat theatre, and a record store, it provides an intriguing look into Marley's life. You may view exhibits of his several gold and platinum records, his Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, and some of his favourite clothing. A life-size hologram of the superstar playing at the One Love Peace concert in 1978 is even on display.

All of the house's original rooms, including the bedroom and on-site recording studio, are preserved in the museum. A store selling souvenirs featuring a variety of Bob Marley items is also there.

Bob Marley Mausoleum

Piggybacking off the above, this is another excellent option for those who are a fan of the legend. Marley was born and died in this community, which is situated in the countryside of Saint Ann.

The Bob Marley Mausoleum, located close to his childhood home in a modest chapel and is a must-see. In this short space, you can see a lot of Marley's instruments, honours, and photos. For visitors who desire to spend a few hours in Marley's hometown, tours are offered from the Jamaican capital.

The Trench Town Culture Yard

This is a fantastic location to enjoy Jamaican rocksteady, ska, and reggae music. Trench Town is a seven-block residential area from the 1940s with simple homes encircling shared yards.

As a result of legendary musicians like The Wailers, Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, and Anton Ellies, it is also regarded as the origin of reggae music. You may learn about the distinctive history of reggae music at the Trench Town Culture Yard, which functions as a living museum.

You can visit the neighbourhood's numerous public spaces, art galleries, and well-known bars on a guided tour.

Kingston Dub Club

Kingston Dub Club is a popular nightclub in Jamaica that plays top-notch ska, rocksteady, and reggae music. One of the top sound systems on the island, Rocker's, is recognized for playing there. Every Sunday, the club's colourfully painted speaker stacks pump out bass-heavy roots reggae and dub music.

The club fills up with enthusiastic dancers and reggae fans until late thanks to its dynamic environment. You can savour delectable drinks and ital cuisine as well. It’s located in the hills of St. Andrew and offers breathtaking views of the city's cityscape.

The Peter Tosh Museum

One of Jamaica's most renowned reggae musicians, Peter Tosh, is remembered through a variety of artefacts and memorabilia on exhibit at the Peter Tosh Museum. Tosh is best known as a founding member of The Wailers reggae band.

A good number of the late musician's favourite possessions are on display in the Peter Tosh Museum, despite its modest size. Notable features include his unicycle, Mick Jagger's gold microphones, and his renowned M16 rifle-shaped guitar.

Rockers International Records

Kingston's Rockers International Records is a classic music retailer. The original vinyl albums of well-known rock and reggae musicians can be found at this family-run store.

Rockers International Records' décor and atmosphere from the 1970s make it feel almost like a living museum. The store is frequently frequented by artists such as Cedric Myton from the Congos and Lester Sterling from the Skatalites.

Redbones Blues Café

Long-running and family-run, Kingston's Redbones Blues Cafe features top-notch live music performances, which is not quite common here in Jamaica. It has been a well-known spot to listen to reggae in Jamaica since 1976.

Numerous well-known musicians from various genres, as well as art displays, international films, and poetry readings, are presented on its stage.

The busiest days at Redbones Blues Cafe are Fridays and Saturdays because jazz and blues performances go on until late. Their restaurant specializes in Caribbean and fusion cuisine, so you can dine and relax to the sound of beautiful music simultaneously.

So, what are the must-visit-reggae music venues in Jamaica? These 7 may not be all there is, but they certainly are on the top ten list. Of course, you can also think about attending annual events such as Reggae Sumfest and Rea Town Old Hits sessions.
