This Jamaican style Guava juice is perfect for those days when the heat is too much to bear. While I am not quite a fan of the fruit itself, I must admit that it makes a tasty drink and its health benefits are definitely a plus.

Before I jump into the recipe, let’s look at some of the amazing health benefits of Guava.
1. Rich in Vitamin C: Guava is packed with vitamin C, surprisingly more than oranges, which boosts the immune system and helps the body fight off infections. One guava provides more than double the daily recommended intake of vitamin C! Guava provides 183 milligrams of Vitamin C per 100 grams, whereas oranges only have roughly 50 mg.
2. High in Dietary Fiber: This fruit is an excellent source of dietary fibre, which aids digestion, prevents constipation, and helps maintain a healthy weight by keeping you full for longer.
3. Antioxidant Properties: Guava is rich in antioxidants like lycopene and vitamin A, which protect the body from free radicals and may reduce the risk of chronic diseases such as cancer and heart disease.
4. Supports Heart Health: The potassium and fibre in guava contribute to heart health by regulating blood pressure and lowering cholesterol levels.
5. Blood Sugar Control: Guava has a low glycemic index and high fibre content, making it a great choice for people with diabetes or those looking to manage their blood sugar levels.
6. Skin Health: The antioxidants and vitamins in guava can improve skin health, helping to reduce wrinkles and improve complexion.
You don’t have to do this, but when making Guava juice I prefer to add another fruit. Thankfully guava’s unique flavor pairs well with a variety of fruits. Some great options to mix with guava include:
One of my favourite pairings is with freshly squeezed orange juice and pineapple. That kinda makes it more of a fruit punch now that I think about it. But make no mistake, Guavas are the main ingredient. Try the recipe below and tell me what you think.
1. Prepare the Guavas: Wash the guavas thoroughly. You can choose to remove the seeds if you want, but we will be straining the juice later so it’s not necessary.
2. Blend the Ingredients: Add the guava pieces and pineapple chunks, orange juice and ginger to a blender and blend until smooth.
3. Strain the Juice: Pour the blended mixture through a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth into a large bowl to remove the pulp. Press down with a spoon to extract as much juice as possible.
4. Add Lime and Sweeten: Stir in the lime juice. Taste the juice and add sugar or honey if desired, adjusting to your preferred level of sweetness.
5. Serve Chilled: Pour the juice into a pitcher, add ice cubes, and chill in the refrigerator before serving, then enjoy!
