Have you seen our video titled Jamaican Herbs for High Blood Pressure? Wellesley was able to get in touch with a herbalist who shared with us some herbs we use here in Jamaica for high blood pressure.

She advised us that most of these herbs are best consumed as tea twice daily. Additionally, the Cow Foot plantโ€™s leaves can be tied to the forehead to relieve high blood pressure. It might sound odd, but I have been seeing my mother do this for years with Breadfruit leaves as well, and she swears by it.

Here are some of the herbs we use:

Mango Leaves

The hypotensive properties of mango leaves may help decrease blood pressure. The condition of the blood vessels is strengthened and enhanced as well. It also works well as a treatment for varicose veins. Studies have shown that mango leaves can lower levels of body fat deposition, which in turn helps to reduce obesity. It might even help you manage your diabetes, which could lead to a high metabolic rate that prevents you from putting on weight.

Trumpet Leaves

Bronchitis, hypertension, obesity, bacterial infections, respiratory diseases, and diabetes can all be treated using trumpet tree leaves. The leaves are also used to treat disorders of the liver, have anti-inflammatory properties, control blood pressure, and kidney problems, treat diabetes mellitus, treat asthma and the flu, and treat Parkinson's disease.

Guava Leaves

Guava leaves are rich in compounds such as flavonoids, tannins, and polyphenols, which possess antioxidant and hypotensive properties. These bioactive compounds have been associated with blood-pressure-lowering effects. Consuming guava leaf tea or extracts may help relax blood vessels, promoting vasodilation and facilitating better blood flow. Improved blood flow can contribute to reduced blood pressure levels.

To control your blood pressure a proper sodium and potassium balance must be maintained. Guava leaves are a healthy addition to a hypertensive diet since they are naturally low in sodium and high in potassium. Potassium works to counterbalance sodium's effects by lowering water retention and promoting normal blood pressure levels. Consuming guava leaves can help you maintain a healthy sodium-potassium balance in your diet.

King of the Forest

King of the Forest aids in maintaining normal blood pressure, which prevents hypertension and lessens its effects in hypertensive patients. The King of the Forest has been used to treat arthritis, rheumatism, and lumbago pain and inflammation. The Cassia Alata (scientific name) plant has phytochemicals in its flowers, stems, leaves, and roots that have potent laxative properties, making it a valuable natural remedy for haemorrhoids and constipation.

Breadfruit Leaves

Both the roots and leaves, of the breadfruit plant can be used to make medicine. Several ailments, including gout, high blood pressure, toothaches, asthma, back pain, and diabetes can be , treated over time by drinking tea made from the breadfruit leaves. The root and leaves of the breadfruit are applied topically for thrush, boils, burns, ear infections, herpes, skin infections, sore or tired eyes, and other conditions.

Moringa

You can drastically lower your blood pressure and prevent catastrophic heart illnesses by using moringa in your diet. Due to its antifungal, antiviral, and anti-inflammatory characteristics, it provides several health advantages.

Potassium, other minerals, and vitamins are abundant in moringa leaves. According to studies, one cup of moringa leaves has three times as much potassium as a banana. This leafy green is more nutritiously dense than other super greens like kale, making it healthier.

The important nutrients that persons with high blood pressure require most are calcium, magnesium, potassium, zinc, and vitamin E, and moringa leaf powder offers all of them. Because calcium is essential for both the relaxation and contraction of smooth muscle, an increase in calcium intake can have an immediate impact on blood vessels.

So if you are struggling with high blood pressure, consider giving these herbs a try. Of course, consult with your doctor first, especially if you are on any medications. Take a look at the video below, to get a glimpse of all these herbs.
