What is the Jamaican Black Castor Oil?
Simply put, it’s castor oil done Jamaican style!
Castor oil is generally created by extracting the oil from the beans or seeds of the castor oil plant and usually has a pale yellowish colour when it is cold-pressed, similar to regular vegetable oil.
Of course, here in Jamaica you know we have to kick it up a notch.
While it has a similar name to the traditional castor oil, you will find that the extraction method for the Jamaican castor oil is completely different.
As such, you will find that this result in a different substance with multiple uses.
This is the process...
The seeds or beans are first roasted (hence the darker colour)
Then crushed in a mortar
Grounding Castor Beans in Mortar
Water is added to the crushed beans
Boil the entire mixture open over heavy fire
Finally, the result, as the water evaporates, the Jamaican black castor oil – a thick and dark brown and pungent oil comes to the top, leaving the residue as the bottom!
The Jamaican black castor oil is used for general health and well-being as it has a wide variety of natural remedies.

By combining one teaspoon of this castor oil along with a teaspoon of coconut oil and five drops of your favourite essential oil such as peppermint- highly recommended, you can apply to your scalp in circular motions using your finger tips. This massage into the scalp and roots will stimulate blood flow and ultimately lead to rapid hair growth.

The Jamaican black castor oil contains omega-6 and omega-9 fatty acids which is a wonder worker for thin hair and hair that breaks easily. A tablespoon of this oil combined with a tablespoon of jojoba oil massaged deep into the scalp of the entire head and left overnight, and washed in the morning will give amazing results.

To do this, you take a flannel that is large enough to cover your abdomen or any other area you want to treat. This should be soaked in the castor oil but not so much to cause it to drip.
Place it over the abdomen and cover with a plastic wrap to prevent the heat from escaping and then put a heating pad on it. Relax with this for 30-60 minutes allowing the oil to help with easing the cramping.
This remedy should not be used for more than four consecutive days per week in a month.
