One of the things I love most about this beautiful island I call home is our culture of celebrating just about everything and our delicious food. So it seems natural for us to celebrate our food, just as much as we celebrate everything else. As a matter of fact we have several events throughout the year that does that. However today I am focusing on the Jamaica Food and Drink Festival.

The Jamaica Food and Drink Festival has come a long way. It started as a small initiative to develop Kingston into the Culinary Capital of not just Jamaica but the Caribbean at large. Since then it has grown into one of the most anticipated food festivals in the region. It has now been 10 years! Within that time the festival has been named the “Caribbean’s Best Culinary Festival” twice by the World Culinary Awards, in 2021 and 2022. USA Today has also called it a “Food Festival Worth Leaving the Beach For,” and even The Daily Meal and Yahoo News have encouraged travellers, saying, “If you travel to only one festival this year, make it the Jamaica Food and Drink Festival.”
Over the past nine years, the Jamaica Food and Drink Festival has hosted 23 events with over 50,000 attendees, highlighting the creativity and talent of chefs from across the island and beyond.
Now let’s fast forward to the festival events taking place in 2024. This time around the festival will take place for a total of 4 days, from November 7 to 10, with a total of 5 events.
Chef’s Table: International Chefs on Show - November 6
One of the standout events of the festival, Chef’s Table, brings together renowned chefs from around the world. This year’s lineup includes Chef Jose Mendín, a Miami-based culinary maverick known for Pub Belly Sushi, and Chef Mathieu Masson-Duceppe from Chopped Canada and Food Network. This exclusive dining experience is a fusion of unique offerings that showcase the expertise of these international standouts.
KUYAH: Jamaican Food Reimagined - November 6
Held at the Craft Market in downtown Kingston, KUYAH celebrates Jamaican flavours with a twist. It’s an opportunity to taste traditional dishes reimagined with bold new flavours while enjoying the vibrant vibe of the city. Expect expertly crafted cocktails inspired by the island’s tropical abundance.
Decade: Crisp, Pork Palooza, Chopstix, Picante - November 8
This event pays homage to the festival’s past with favourites like Crisp, Chopstix, Pork Palooza, and Picante all in one place at Hope Gardens. It’s a nostalgic journey through the festival’s history, blending international influences with the Jamaican flavours we all know and love.
Meet Street: Street Food + Good Vibes - November 9
Meet Street is the ultimate foodie experience, featuring some of Jamaica’s best restaurants, bars, food trucks, and local artisans. It’s all about enjoying the best of Kingston’s street food culture in a lively atmosphere filled with good vibes and great music.
