You've heard about Elsa right?
It is the first named Hurricane of the season.
Well based on the latest update from the Hurricane Center at 5am today (Sunday), it battered other sections of the Caribbean but has weakened back to a tropical storm. Its center was located 85 miles east of Kingston, Jamaica.
Below is a pic with the current projected path, courtesy of CNN.
It has slowed a bit, moving west-northwest at 14 mph with maximum sustained winds of 65 mph so the eye will pass north of Jamaica later this afternoon, heading towards Cuba, the Florida Keys and the east coast of the USA.
So not a direct hit at all but we are expecting tropical storm conditions, usually heavy rains with possible flooding from its outer bands so we are still on alert.
Late Saturday, Elsa ravaged parts of the Dominican Republic and Haiti with heavy rain and high winds as its center passed to the south.
I'll continue (if possible) to share updates with you here if and when conditions deteriorate.
In the meantime, I'd like to take the opportunity to remind us to ensure we are always prepared for the eventualities from these hurricanes.
I actaully have several resources here on my website that help but perhaps the most comprehensive is this one (https://www.my-island-jamaica.com/hurricane_safety.html) and so I implore you to read but also share it with persons who might need this information to remain safe.
Thanks again peeps, be safe!
