The Charela Inn Negril has a little history behind it. It all started when in 1975 Charles and Pamela Muclow, both retirees from Kingston decided to construct the Inn and named it Charela, the perfect combination of both their first names.
It wasn’t long after, just five years, they sold the Charela Inn to another couple, Sylvie Aicha Grizzle and Daniel Grizzle. Daniel, a son of the soil from the neighbouring parish of Hanover and his wife, Sylvie, a French woman with a love for travelling. The couple kept the name Charela just as the first owners had christened it.
What convinced them to buy the property, was of course its location, but more specifically where it was on the property. The Inn itself was in the centre of the land and had a large beach 250ft between the sea and the building. Even today the Charela Inn Negril is well known for its large beach area. The beach is never crowded.
Since 1983, just three years after the Grizzles purchased the property, they have been expanding and finding new ways to accommodate guests and their particular needs. Today they have a total of 59 rooms, some offering differing views but all rooms have a private patio or balcony. They offer:
The Junior Suites and Family Units can accommodate the most persons, each comfortably fitting 3 or 4 guests respectively.
At the Inn, check-in is at 2 pm and check out is at 12 pm.
Yes, they have one restaurant, Le Vendome, which prides itself on using exclusively farm to table ingredients for all its dishes. They have a daily 5-course meal menu that incorporates flavours from Jamaica, Italy and France.
Their restaurant produces such consistently exceptional food, that they also cater to many walk-ins who come by for breakfast, lunch or dinner just to eat at the restaurant on property.
No, but they do have meal plans that you can consider. And in the event you decide to eat off property, you are surrounded by countless restaurants, each just as incredible as the last.
Yes, it is! There are three ground floor suites that are fully accessible to physically challenged guests. I will use this opportunity to mention that all communal areas of the Inn are designed to accommodate all guests as well.
The inn does have a pool, access to the gorgeous 7-mile beach and Junior Suites come with a Jacuzzi. They also have currency exchange services on the property for your convenience.
For the more adventurous excursions though, you will have to visit some of the nearly 20 attractions close by including:
At just 15 minutes from the centre of the town, you are just far enough away to enjoy a peaceful vacation without being fully disconnected from all that is happening. You will be able to enjoy the best of both as you can decide when you would like to be in each setting.
You won’t always have to go out for entertainment. Sometimes, at least two nights a week there will be a live band performance, whether it comes from the familiar faces of the wait staff or a specially invited guest and backing band. You can enjoy dinner and then dance the evening away to the sound of Reggae music, which I think is the perfect end to every day.
The Charela Inn Does accommodate weddings, birthdays and anniversary parties on their property.
They have special packages for weddings which even includes two witnesses if needs be. They have meal plans specifically for the wedding which increase in price depending on the offerings included in the package. They also have honeymoon packages for newlyweds as well.
The Grizzle’s also operate the property Le Mirage Negril, which is a smaller, adult only, clothing optional property, located on the West End Cliffs Negril. Here, you can enjoy snorkelling or swimming in the ocean or sunbathing by the infinity pool.
