Have you ever watched the movie Cool Runnings? Yes, that movie about the Jamaica bobsledding team. As many of you may know it was based on a true story. This leaves people with a few questions about bobsledding in Jamaica.

Is there bobsledding in Jamaica?

The simple answer for that would be yes, sorta. There is an entire bobsledding team that participates in the winter Olympics, however, it is not a sport practised on the island. Bobsledding is a sport that is practised in countries that typically experience snowfall during their winter seasons.

So how is it possible for Jamaica, a tropical island to have bobsledding? Well, the lack of snowfall on the island was not strong enough of a deterrent, to prevent Jamaicans from going bobsledding. In true Jamaican fashion, they have made the impossible quite possible, and fun too!

Bobsled Jamaica Attractions

There are two main places to visit in Jamaica bobsledding in Jamaica is what’s on your bucket list of things to do while on the sunshine island.

Mystic Mountain Adventure Park and Rainforest

The Bobsled Jamaica attraction is Mystic Mountain's crowning achievement. This iconic attraction involves a gravity-driven fall through 3280 feet of bends and twists on a specially created sled that pays homage to the Olympic bobsled squad from Jamaica from 1988 and 1992.

The course winds through old trees, hugs imposing cliff faces and limestone outcroppings looming over the shoreline and beckons you through tight chutes of dense rainforest. The Bobsled run's track was specially built to minimize harming the natural terrain.

With the aid of an in-sled handbrake, you can manage your own descent and choose between a leisurely trip through the forest and a heart-pounding plunge to the mountain's base. After your bobsled comes to a graceful halt, you are gradually hoisted back up the mountain through the jungle, finishing the round in about ten minutes.

Height and Weight Requirements

  • Minimum Height Required: 36 Inches (91.5 Cm).
  • Maximum Weight Limit Of 300 Lbs (136 Kilograms).

About Mystic Mountain: One of the most well-known attractions in Ocho Rios is Mystic Mountain, a rainforest adventure park that is only ten minutes away from Jamaica Inn. The adventure park offers a fantastic vantage point from which to view Ocho Rios.

This eco-friendly destination, which is situated in the centre of Ocho Rios and is just 5 minutes from the cruise ship pier or Dunn's River Falls, provides a distinctive selection of adventure trips for people of all ages. Discover the diverse biodiversity of the woodland, and glistening river streams, or just take in the breathtaking city views.

The adventure park provides visitors with a variety of activities, including the sky explorer, zipline, bobsled, and more.

JamWest Motorsports and Adventure Park

The ideal choice for someone wishing to blast their adrenaline! JamWest's own imitation of what motivated Jamaica to make its debut at the 1988 Winter Olympics by competing in the bobsled event is the Push Kart.

With the option to choose between cruising around the forest or tearing through on the sled lines, the Push Kart puts the power of excitement in your own hands. Prepare to scream for a mile and a half.

Select hotels in Negril and Montego Bay, they will pick you up to start your Push Kart adventure. You will be welcomed at the clubhouse, which has a restaurant, gift store, and bars when you arrive. Go to their bobsled line after signing your waiver to get seated in a real "Jamaican-Kart."

Before riding the rail, a well-trained group of Tour Guides will give you a safety briefing. Take a relaxing bath at the Mineral Bath to cap off your visit.

About JamWest: In 2003, JamWest Speedway was transformed into JamWest Motorsports and Adventure Park. The park houses the biggest speedway in the area and is located 28 minutes outside of Negril, Jamaica's "casual capital."
