Kimiela 'Candy' Isaacs has secured the top spot in the 2024 Jamaica Festival Song Competition with her hit song, #One Jamaica. She was determined the winner by a combination of the verdict of a panel of Judges and public voting.
In so doing, she made history as the first visually impaired winner of the competition. Her producer, Sydney Thorpe, is also visually impaired.
For her success, Isaacs pocketed two million dollars in prize money as the writer and performer, while the producer won one million dollars.
Isaacs was one of six women among the 10 finalists, marking a historic female representation in the contest's near 60-year history.
Also, for the first time in its history, the top three finalists were women, notably in the only year when women outnumbered men six to four.
Isaacs is not new to competition though as she has a notable track record in Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC) competitions. She placed second in the 2009 Jamaica Gospel Song Competition and was a finalist in the 2021 Jamaica Festival Song Competition.
This year’s competition however saw extremely strong contenders, including Miss Hanover Festival Queen 2023 Tricia 'Trisstar' Cunningham with Jamaica Jamaica and media personality Pepita Little with We are Jamaicans.
The theme for the 2024 Jamaica Festival Song Competition was ‘Jamaica 62: One Love to the World'. The presentation was held at the Karl Hendrickson Auditorium, Jamaica College on Saturday, July 13, 2024.
