Contest Entry #005 - Jamaican People - During The Eye Of The Storm
Jamaica is a beautiful place with many great vacation spots that is true.
However, it is important to remember that it is not all about resorts, rum and beaches – it is about the people.
I took this photo during the eye of Hurricane Sandy when everyone had a brief period of time to come out and assess damages done.
This is my neighbor taking a look at the area. Behind him is a zinc roof that had flown over from the adjacent housing scheme being stopped only by a light pole.
The condition of the road in the picture is an issue people on my road have dealt with for years, making it difficult to even get cars past a certain point.
Despite the sad nature of this photo, I would like to highlight the strong sense of community and helping each other out after the storm, a period of time when we had no electricity and no water for weeks.
It was a sense of teamwork I have not experienced anywhere else.
